Through the pilgrimages from the 1st to the 12th of December, like every year, almost all the inhabitants of Puerto Vallarta will declare their faith and their gratitude towards the virgin of Guadalupe, whom we consider the Mother of our nation.
Since the year 1590 going on a pilgrimage to the place where the Virgin appeared, has been a tradition with which the Mexicans give a testimony of believing in the apparition of the Virgin and in her miracles. After Mexico City there is no other city like Puerto Vallarta where so many people attend the pilgrimages.
For 12 consecutive days, with different schedules, one by one, all business, companies, institutions, organizations and people in general, take turns to go on a pilgrimage through the streets of the city until they reach the main church which is called the church of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
For the majority, the pilgrimage is a serious opportunity to show our mother the magnitude of our gratitude for all the favors received, whether asked for or not, and therefore, in most cases no investment of time and money is spared to organize an excellent pilgrimage in her name. This means that everyone who participates in the pilgrimage uses a uniform and carries one or various placards with a message of love and gratitude towards the Virgin. It also means that every pilgrim takes along a candle or an oil lamp, and carries the offerings, too which are offered the moment the altar of the Virgin is reached. The dancers cannot be missing. In many cases they are members of the pilgrimage group and they have been preparing themselves during a long period of time in order to dance without stopping, wearing costumes like our ancestors the Aztecs did. A type of military band is also included as part of the pilgrimage and if the budget allows it, there is a spectacular allegorical vehicle upon which other members of the pilgrimage are dressed up especially in order to represent the Virgin and Juan Diego. The most splendid pilgrimages are those which are accompanied by one or various mariachis that intone and accompany the pilgrims during the chants of praise for the Virgin.
No other religious tradition offers the opportunity to observe and perceive such fervor in the same way. Everything is accompanied by an intense coloring that manifests the joy of singing to our mother beautifully dark and kind always watching over her children.
Little by little over the years it can be observed that each time there are more foreign visitors or residents who join the pilgrims in order to adore the Virgin. During the pilgrimages scenes and moments can always be observed where genuine love and compassion towards the fellowman manifests in several miraculous ways. During this great event there are no differences of any kind between those who participate in the pilgrimages. There, walking in the street, we are all grateful followers of Guadalupe, we are all singing and side by side we are crying full of emotion while we give thanks for the well-being and health of our family and for the gift of the life that the Virgin has given us.
There is nothing more moving and electrifying that entering the church and seeing how the Virgin in front of the altar, receives her thousands of children who ask her while singing to her that she may always continue to protect them in her lap.

Las Peregrinaciones

Como cada año del 1º. al 12 de Diciembre, a través de las peregrinaciones casi toda la gente de y en Puerto Vallarta, manifestaremos nuestra su fe y nuestra gratitud a quien consideramos la madre de nuestra nación, La Virgen de Guadalupe.
Desde el año de 1590 el peregrinar hacia el lugar donde apareció la Virgen, ha sido una tradición con la que loo Mexicanos damos testimonio de creer en la aparición de la Virgen y en sus milagros. Después de la ciudad de México, en ninguna otra ciudad como en Puerto Vallarta, las peregrinaciones son tan asistidas.
Por 12 días seguidos, en diferentes horarios, uno a uno todos los negocios, empresas, instituciones, organizaciones y gente en general, se van turnando para peregrinar a través de las calles de la ciudad, hasta llegar a la iglesia principal que es llamada de la Virgen de Guadalupe.
Para la mayoría, la peregrinación es una seria oportunidad de mostrarle a nuestra madre la magnitud de nuestro agradecimiento por todos los favores pedidos o no que nos ha dado, y por lo tanto, en la mayoría de los casos no se escatima en inversión de tiempo y dinero para organizar una peregrinación en excelencia en su nombre. Esto representa que todos los que participan en su peregrinación vayan uniformados, lleven una o varias pancartas con mensaje de amor y gratitud hacia la Virgen. También se incluye que todos los peregrinos lleven velas o candiles, cargando también las ofrendas que se ofrecerán al llegar al altar de la Virgen. No pueden faltar los danzantes que son en mucho casos, son miembros del grupo de peregrinos que se han preparado durante mucho tiempo para danzar sin parar, vestidos como nuestros ancestros aztecas lo hacían. Como parte de la peregrinación también se incluye a una banda estilo militar, y si el presupuesto lo permite, también se lleva un espectacular carro alegórico donde otros miembros de la peregrinación, son vestidos especialmente para hacer la representación de la Virgen y de Juan Diego. Las peregrinaciones más lucidas son las que también se hacen acompañar de uno o varios mariachis que entonan y acompañan a los peregrinos durante el canto de alabanzas a la Virgen.
Ninguna otra tradición religiosa brinda de la misma forma la oportunidad de observar y percibir tanto fervor. Todo esto acompañado de un intenso colorido que manifiesta la alegría de cantarle a una madre hermosamente morena y bondadosa, que siempre esta velando por estos sus hijos.
Poco a poco a través de los años se ha venido observando que cada vez son más los extranjeros visitantes o residentes, que se unen a los peregrinos para adorar a la Virgen. Durante las peregrinaciones siempre se observan escenas y momentos donde el verdadero amor y comprensión hacia el prójimo se manifiesta de diversas maneras milagrosas. Durante este magno evento no existen diferencias de ninguna especie entre los que participamos en las peregrinaciones. Ahí, caminando en la calle, todos somos Gudalupanos agradecidos, todos cantamos y hombro con hombro lloramos de emoción mientras damos gracias por el bienestar y la salud de nuestra familia y la vida que la Virgen nos regala.
Nada es más emocionante y electrizante que entrar a la Iglesia y ver como la Virgen al frente en el altar, recibe a sus miles de hijos que cantándole le piden que por siempre los siga cobijando en su regazo.
