Playa Sayulita / Acrylic on Canvas / 120 x 86 cm.
Once again the spectacular and unmistakable colors of the local painter Ada Colorina are captured with romantic joy on this canvas. It is a piece of art that was specifically completed to be a part of the present individual exhibition that was opened on March 24th in the Raintree Gallery of Marcos Scott which is located in the town of Sayulita.
In this painting you can distinguish the most characteristic feature of the painter. First of all through her outlines she places the observer in a unique position and then she tells her version of a general story. If the observer wishes to do that, the story may also be divided by imaginary lines forming squares in any area of the painting. Thus new paintings start to appear within the painting in a fascinating way telling a new story separate from the one that has been painted as the main story. We can see the essence and the mastery in the work of the artist. While recounting everyday life in a village, a ranch or a small town, where every character is interacting with another character and/or with his surrounding, the artists testifies that the people are the essential elements giving life to the topic of the painting.
The main topic on this painting tells us that the radiant moon is the source of life. It shows the activity of a small village where each character in turn tells us his personal story. A young guy is at sea on his surfboard ―a very representative scene of Sayulita― while waiting for the adequate wave, he invites another young guy on the beach to quickly team up with him within a world that only belongs to the two of them. And while they are connected through their experience, there is a mother next to her son watching the young guy who is just about to step into the ocean. At the same time she is lifting her right arm as if she wants to tell the boy what he must learn in order to play with the waves, too. Behind them, lost in his thoughts there is a fisherman who has cast his line hoping to feel the bite of a fish in order to reel it in. There is another fisherman next to him. After having tasted some fresh coconut water, he prepares himself to clean his catch. This is part of what happens in the foreground whereas in the background of the painting there are two artists at the foot of a huge palapa building interpreting a romantic song while a couple is dancing. All of them are observed by someone on his balcony. And we could continue in this way, finding stories in different corners and thus we could continue endlessly to captivate our senses
I agree with Federico Leon de la Vega when he mentions that "the art of Ada Colorina is simply inimitable".
