Nayarit Governor Ney receives Manifiesto
digned by 30 artists and Francisco Toledo

Leer en Español

A manifesto signed by 30 Bahía de Banderas artists was delivered to Governor Ney in company of Municipal presindent Dr. Jaime Cuevas during a meeting with  local  businessmen May 26th. Painter Artist Federico León de la Vega read and hand-delivered the document, which was produced in conclusion of the "El Salado" painting show that took place at the Estudio-Café of Nuevo Vallarta during the month of January.  Among those signing were Ada Colorina, Ireri Topete, Evelyne  Boren, Caudia Ramos, Francisco San Miguel, Nelly and Rammis Barquet, Patti Gallardo, Meg Munro, Anne Timmins, Susan Grover, Marcela Bernal,  Sergio Martínez,  León de la Vega and others.

Additionally, the last signature on the manifesto is that of Francisco Toledo, the world-famous Oaxacan artist that won the "Right of Livelihood Award" in 2005.  This award  was established by Jacob von Uexhull and the Swedish Parliament  grants it to people who strive for the right to an honest occupation and the respect of other people and the natural world. Although Toledo did not participate in the Salado show he asked to join in the signature of the resulting manifesto.  His original signature is in the manifesto issue handed to Governor Ney as well as in another issue which will be given to the next  Jalisco Governor.

The manifesto is reproduced below:

LOS ARTISTAS

pintores, escultores, fotógrafos y todos los creativos
de Bahía de Banderas

Exhortamos

Interviewed after the ceremony, León de la Vega said the show would be held
annually at the Estudio-Café.
