Ramiz Barquet Sculptor
Leer en Español

Ramiz Barquet is born in México, where he attends grammar school. At a very early age, he stars carving in wood, always using the human figure as a theme. His favorites are ebony and fancy woods. In 1938 he is sent to Montreal, Canada to continue his classical studies where he attends the School of Fine Arts. He lives in Canada for several years.

During summers, he travels through the Provinces of Quebec and Ontario. His love of nature takes him. With a group of five classmates, sometimes by bicycle, or in canoe, or by foot, to the great rivers St. Maurice and St. Lawrence and to the lakes of those Provinces as well. Later on, and for several consecutive years, he will do the same journey with the same journey with the same friends, to renew and share with them their common love for nature.

In Mexico City, his love art inspires him to work in monumental sculpture assisting his professor from Florence, Augusto Bozzano, who had been the director of the Art School in Florence and Geneve. Ramiz constantly travels to Europe, where he attended the art school in Paris and Florence. Back in Mexico, he starts working in his studio in the peaceful, colonial and romantic “Chimalistac”, where he has lived for many years. Here he continues collaborating with Master Bozzano in monumental works.

In 1974, Ramiz opens a second studio in the happy and beautiful Puerto Vallarta. His studio has a splendid view of the “small town” and great landscape of both the ocean and the mountains. In his search for a mystical theology he travels to the Middle East.  There, in Lebanon, land of his ancestors, he has the opportunity to visit several of the old monasteries, acquiring at the same time, great knowledge of the old Phoenician culture. He continues traveling in Germany, France, Spain and Italy. He returns to Canada where the frequently lived with the Benedictine monks in their monasteries, fascinated by the Gregorian chats. Spirituality comforts and inspires him.

He has had numerous exhibits in Mexico City as well as in Monterrey, Guadalajara, Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta. The exhibits have been both individual and collective. He also performs itinerants though different States of the Mexican Republic.

He has exhibited in some cities of the United Stats, such as Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Houston; Dallas and San Antonio.

His work is mainly found amongst private collectors, in the Republic of Mexico, in the United States, Canada and some European countries and South America. There is an important collection of his in Hong Kong.

He has monumental work in the cities of Mexico, Puebla, Monterrey and Yucatan. In Vancouver and Los Angeles.
