Shark - A Story in The Submarine World - Part I

By Sculptor Ramiz Barquet

This is the store of a shark whose name are Casper Cazón. He is a selachian of exceptional quality. He could be actually called King of the seas without having intention to stealing from his father the title that by justice and by his own right belongs to him.

Casper is a descendant of a daring extremely ancient racial shark group of submarine hunting champions. This does not mean that this racial group is a privileged one, because it is a privilege in itself to live praising the Lord. Besides, the Creator of the Universe-far amongst the fair-could not bestow a special hierarchy because if such were the case he would not be very pleased. But talking about privilege we can be certain that the Lord did reserve it to the earth dwellers-the good ones-because they were created to his image and resemblance. Even though, to tell the truth, some of them are not worth it. There are some opinions claiming that Casper’s race is highly aristocrat and full of sea nobility. Yet, when this fact is mentioned, many tribes become rebellions. Nevertheless, there is little doubt about how those few million years have awarded splendor and a special quality Great Creator to mould them, came out most attractive because of its surprising aesthetic and precise balance. Magnificent!

Casper was born in the bosom of a united and honorable family. A little biting, one must accept it that goes with its condition. This family is observant of a very strict code of submarine honor. Casper came to exist in his parents’ home, deep on the seabed. The sonar recorded his birthday and the event was properly written down the extremely busy Ocean Annals.

The chronicle of the ocean tells us that Casper’s father, Firpo and his mother, Sapona, both with domicile in the very wet Las Peñitas neighborhood, impart their children a meticulous education inspired on a millenary moral tradition. As to their physical instruction, it extremely hardworking, consisting mainly of a solid knowledge of the hunting arts, and in order to achieve it, young sharks are infused with a detailed notion of the power and the power the mechanics of theirs muscles. They would exercise by means of very old, but always practical systems, using methods inherited generation after generation. Also of extreme importance are the sanity techniques, taught with great discipline, with the aim to preserving the pure condition of their mouth. For instance, the sharpening of their teeth is like using the cutting edge of a knife, in order to shape them into weapons in such a way, that when put into motion, they will be able to perform their task with  conclusive ability.

Something very important for their survival process consists of frequently practicing mental quickness exercises. They play strange card games called games of chance, very much like the ones practiced by the ones practiced by the earth dwellers. The young ones are entitled to constantly cheating because, according to the tradition, deceiving is a powerful mental stimulator.

Their sense of smell scarcely has to be improved Mother Nature has been most generous with them, but the training of their finds and the rest of their members are substantial components of their calisthenics program, which is a part of their mandatory routine exercises. Actually the whole physical fitness program is essential to the performing of their craft. There have been gossips claiming their sense of sight is rather weak, but the truth is that for strategic reasons, sharks have spread the notion they are short sighted. What the cold headed scientists have not as yet revealed is the fact that they are able to perceive colors because as we all know, they show a special interest towards colored small fishes.

So, it is only natural that Casper had sprung up as a daring and fierce shark. ¿Is he frightening? Well, very few fishes, as well as some slippery earth dwellers lived to prove the contrary. But he gets upset by natural phenomenon because he respects such supernatural forces… Which he would not dare to play with because occurrences of that kind are God’s expressions.

Casper acclaims the Great Creator of the Universe. He knows that every day carries along eternity.

Casper pleases the Creator with his vigorous pirouettes and multiple leaps that every seldom shows up before an audience. Those are a part of his hidden force, a ritual belonging to his daily glorification of the Lord. This is one reason why Casper is most respected by the honorable members of the rest of the tribes.

During his very tight morning, Casper performs several raids, which are a parts of his training, he gulps down, almost unintentionally, lots of little fishes, usually of the multicolored kind, which are specially appreciated by gourmets. It is true that sometimes he consumes food in an excessive fashion, but claims that he happens to be growing up and must be appropriately fed in fed in order to keep his body in excelent shape, to display, when the moment comes, a maximum of efficiency while performing his craft.

Thus, Casper’s body works like an exact machine, like a well lubricated piston. It is a very harmonic ensemble similar to the waves, with their backward and forward motion in the vast ocean. The cholesterol, the rheumatism, the decalcification and many other calamities that afflict the emaciated and mangy earth dwellers, have no room in his body and much less in his mind. Casper has the great privilege to dwell in an enchanted world –hidden to our eyes- with millions of species of fishes and plants, an endless variety of unusual forms and colors. Wonderful!

It is true that Casper was born in a loving environment of profound respect for the submarine nature. The exterior universe, although designed by the same Creator is less familiar to him, but when he performs his physical skills jumping high and low, he has been able to appreciate the beauty of the land.

Natives are able to distinguish very well Casper’s jumps and can tell the difference between those of the dolphins or those of the whales, for instance. The latter are most perceptible, huge and full, because they are majestically stocky and slow moving. On the hard the dolphin is a very rhythmical lad, cheerful and frisky and has an unmistakable undulating cadence. Also his shape is rounded, probably because of his constant, voluptuous and smooth rhythm.

The dolphin is a cetacean mammalian and his brain is larger that of his neighbors.

But who could surpass Casper in the hastily almost obscene way in which he gobbles down his victims –some of them quite innocent – by means of a rhythmic and automatic operation. Such is his simple and competent fashion to kill some prudent fellows, and also by the way, some imprudent ones (because there are always plenty of those), since all is needed is a cleverly thrown snap of jaws. What an extraordinary precision!

Regarding his physical attributes, Casper has become a true virtuos animal. I have studied him and since I enjoy to listening to harmonious music, sometimes I take the fancy to thinking, in a parallel fashion, about Paganini, the devilish. I imagine him strumming his extremely fine Guarneri, still warm from the oven (located back in Cremona) pulling out from such instrument, without effort, sublime elevation moaning and even mystical tears.

Casper does not trust earth dwellers. Those debauched, who intend, with unhealthily frequency, to lay cruel traps for him. Those civilized human beings try to make him fall into the net, because they mean to use his tasty meat to cook a very well scraped ceviche, prepared in the most pure Las Peñitas tradition, with a bitter revenge flavor. Casper believes that the chasing for sharks is a foolish routine practiced by those who have in mind the elimination of them a most negative reputation. The truth is that the earth dwellers have inside of them a wild beast that does not have anything to do with the commandments of the Lord. But that is not all, because the earth dwellers are constantly stealing their food.
