HIDDEN PLACES IN BANDERAS BAY

Hidden Places in Banderas Bay - Art & Culture Discovering
By: Jesús de Avila - The Editor - August 2006 - Leer en Español

With a total coastal extension of 96 kilometers which are shared by the states of Nayarit ―with a corresponding 36 kilometers― and Jalisco ―with the rest of 60 kilometers― the Bay of Banderas is one of biggest and most beautiful bays in the world.

The bay is located in a subtropical area guaranteeing an intense summer with generous rainfalls contributing to the fact that the climate remains humid and very pleasant during the rest of the year, attracting millions of international travelers every year.

The mountainous area corresponding to the Western Sierra Madre mountain range is an important distinction of the region. Besides protecting the bay, it provides the bay with its own personality making it a unique tourist destination in our country. The sea, the sun, the rain, the winds and the mountains generate a great variety of rich marine and terrestrial ecosystems giving life and color to fascinating scenes enhancing the tourism value of the area.

Together with all of this, plus the great variety of activities that can be carried out and the active night life, for some years now the historical and cultural aspects have also become factors for increasing tourist demand. This demand has the variant that it stems from a market of very specific travelers. Instead of simply relaxing on the beach and having fun, their main goal is to establish a contact with our roots and to experience a true acquaintance of our culture through diverse manifestations such as arts, traditions and gastronomy.

In addition to the most common options such as attending a Mexican fiesta or taking a group excursion i.e., visiting a close-by historical village or a tequila factory, this kind of traveler also has the exciting possibility of discovering by himself some "Hidden Places" where the contact with the cultural manifestation is more intimate.

Each day a growing number of visitors wish to experience the intimacy of an encounter or the adventure of discovery. For them the region with its spaces and “Hidden Places” is a chest full of live treasures captivating and moving them deeply.

Starting with this editionHidden Places" will be a column through which we will share information concerning various places that are not promoted massively and where those that collaborate at PVMirror have the certainty that our readers will not only have an intimate encounter with our culture but at the same time will have an enriching and unforgettable experience.

The forms through which the culture of a town is manifested are very varied. The different expressions of art, architecture, literature, gastronomy, traditions and festivities are the ones that stand out. The "Hidden Places" that we suggest to get to know, offer an intimate contact that is achieved through these manifestations and their main characters are the reason why they are a part of the following list:
