Survival plan for the holidays! (mainly if you'll be working..)

It just takes a little planning ahead because doing certain things will take us longer. Puerto Vallarta is known to be a very crowded place during Holy Week (Semana Santa), that is, the week ending on the 8th of April. The next week Easter (Pascua) is not that bad.

All hotels will be full to capacity, all houses, apartments and condos will be used or rented by their owners and most Vallartans will be hosting visiting friends or relatives, sometimes some whose existence you did never suspect!

Lots of people fly, some ride buses, but the rest DRIVE to Vallarta from all over, which means many streets and avenues will be saturated to an unknown extent and if there is a collision or a car breaks down, well, you’ll be there for a while.

It will be a good idea to avoid the GOING and COMING BACK hours from the beaches in Nuevo Vallarta.

Going into town for dinner will also take somewhat longer, some of the most popular restaurants and discos will be full too.

As far as parking is concerned, well, this will be a time to prove the efficiency of the new parking lots, we’ll see.

You can expect some long lines at the cashiers of the larger stores and they may be sold out of some items, but, nothing serious really.

There was a time when Gutiérrez Rizo, the only supermarket back then, would run out of just about everything during this period and gas stations (there were two) would run out of gas too.

Fortunately Vallarta is much better equipped now and all we need to do is plan ahead; as most vacationers are no early birds so we can shop and go into town if we must, early. If not, we should just be prepared to allow more time for some things.

Happy Semana Santa to all!
