Guadalajara artist Blue will ornate the Malecon foreve r
After nearly a year after the opening of Maritza Vazquez’s exhibition “Marine Neighbors”, the sculpture “Standing on End” (Eriza-dos) was formally donated to the City of Puerto Vallarta for the enjoyment of its residents and visitors alike.
At the ceremony, presided over by the head of the Art and Culture Department, David Izazaga and the artist, she commented that she decided to leave these pieces here because of the warm reception they got from the public. “When I brought them here, everybody asked if they were going to remain, at a time when it was only meant to be a temporary exhibition” Blue said.
It was suggested by the architect in charge of the construction of the Malecon extension that the sculptures should become a part of the scenery. A photograph of the sculpture made the front page of a Guadalajara newspaper, with an article about the course of a hurricane posing a possible threat to Puerto Vallarta. “The fact that the sculpture had been adopted as emblematic of Puerto Vallarta, came as a realization that it belonged to the people of the city and determined my decision” she said.
The sculpture consists of two steel sea urchins and involved a lot of hard work, but the final result conveys a sensation of life and movement to the viewer.

A Deluxe Mariachi Gala
Provided By Ambito
“Among the audience we saw Mr. Felipe Romero Huerta, creator of the first mariachi of Puerto Vallarta, Los Pipianos ”
Mariachi Gala was presented by the City Hall as a Grand Finale during the celebration of the double anniversary of Puerto Vallarta. This took place in the “Caballito del Mar” zone, at the Malecon. The concert started at 9 p.m. thursday May 31st.with the performances of four great Mariachis, who with “sones”, “huapangos” and popular songs celebrated the 89th. and 39th. Anniversaries of Puerto Vallarta as municipality and city.
A true range of vernacular sounds, the colorful “charro” suit, the popular compositions about love and indifference as well as the flavors of Mexico were the ingredients of the Gala.
The first mariachi on the stage, surrounded by pyrotechnics and illumination were the members of the “Mariachi Navidad”, from Mascota (the emerald of the mountains); for one hour the musicians interpreted very well known songs as “Aca entre nos”, “El Aventurero”, “Por tu maldito amor”, “Hermoso Cariño” and many other popular songs.
The turn came for another great interpreter of Mexican music, the mariachi “Tamazula de Gordiano”, that played the “Huapango de Moncayo” in a sublime way. We should mention that at the same time a series of fireworks were detonated and went along with the rhythm of the wonderful music created by Juan Pablo Moncayo who was born in Jalisco, and illumined the dark night in this festivity of the Vallartenses.
As for the mariachi “Joya de Mexico”, native of Puerto Vallarta, we have to say that their performance started with great energy and the audience, who had occupied the proximities of the stage many hours before the event, applauded heartily. They played popular songs as “Sentimental”, “Entra en mi Vida”, “Echame a mi la Culpa” and a potpourri of the Spanish singer Rocio Durcal.
Finally the mariachi “Los Toritos”, native of Guadalajara, closed the Gala after one o´clock in the morning, Friday June 1st. “Los Toritos” as well as the mariachi “Tamazula de Gordiano” played a special arrangement for mariachi, of a potpourri of classical music composers such as Beethoven, Vivaldi and Mozart, and were accompanied by the fireworks.
Due to the versatility of these groups from Jalisco with more than 50 years of artistic experience, it was possible for them to pass from the classics to the popular music without interruption. Also, the songs of the Mexican composer Jose Alfredo Jimenez, adorned the night of the Vallartenses, who sang in chorus “Te solte la Rienda” and “El Rey”
Some moments before the conclusion of the musical encounter that lasted for more than 5 hours, “Los Toritos” and the mariachi “Joya de Mexico” stepped into the Stage and ended the show together.
It is important to mention that among the audience it was possible for us to find Mr. Felipe Romero Huerta, creator of the first mariachi of Puerto Vallarta and also Mr. Jose Navarro, author of the song “Despreciado me voy”, which the great singer Javier Solis made so popular and that still is recorded by many artists.

Lithos, Stones Envisioned From an Artistic Point of View
Provided By Ambito
Third individual exhibit of Professor Topete in Casa Vallarta See, contemplate, examine and investigate. These are the factors of the Lithos Production
Stones, those inanimated objects that the vast majority puts aside, kicks or uses as weapons, have inspired Ireri Topete. The artist stopped, and a thought about the ecological devastation crossed her mind; immediately after she felt the need to review a process, one of the most important for an artist that creates contemplation every day. In Lithos, she exhibits twelve art works, among oil, polyptics, engravings and installation. She presents it in Guadalajara, offering a view of the daily work of a Vallartense artist.
The River Cuale is present in Ireri Topete´s everyday (Puerto Vallarta, 1969) Nevertheless, since some time ago and up to today, this space has taken another dimension for her. “Three years ago the river was not so dry. Since then I have realized that there are many stones there and you couldn´t see them. I worry about this change, but it also made me more sensitive looking at those stones and remembering that there are many universes around us” ; the plastic artist explained this as her first motivation to give birth to this pictorial project related to stones.
Topete knows she is an obsessive artist; this is the way she has been during these 15 years of professional trajectory. In this moment her creative vein has led her to connect with the rocks in a very particular way. She looks at them, contemplates them, examines and investigates them and begins her field work. It´s a dynamic in which she has been involved since 2005, and with this information it has been possible for her to follow a record about the River Cuales¨ life. “The work I¨m doing now is very related with my environment, but always with the idea of finding that thing that will cause surprise, that will shake you. In this way I detonate my ideas, my projects”, Ireri Topete pointed out.
In this, her third individual exhibit in Guadalajara, she is very pleased to find a natural space of expression for artists born or living in Puerto Vallarta. She likes the idea of showing a part of the plastic arts taking place in this tourist destination, and to make good use of a good forum in the capital of Jalisco, that naturally attracts many spotlights. She is also enthusiastic because other eyes will see her work; other eyes different from those who are close to her motivations, far away from the river, which she invites us to contemplate.
