Xiutla Marks 13th Anniversary

Provided By Ambito - September 2007.

The Ballet has made 976 appearances to date. The Company, directed by Professor Enrique Barrios Limón, in guest of honor to the Jose Rosas Moreno Theater Centennial Festivities in Lagos de Moreno

In 1994 a great promoter of Puerto Vallarta appeared for the first time; a folk ballet that has reached great heights. On Friday, July 27, the Xiutla Municipal Folk Ballet Company marked its 13th anniversary and 976 official performances, reaping great success on each of the stages where it has appeared. Enrique Barrios Limon is the founder and director of the company which today is made up of 250 children and teenagers, and looks back with satisfaction at the company’s achievements through thirteen years.

Effort, dedication, commitment and discipline are some of the values the ballet has engraved on those who have been part of the ballet’s 13-year history. The Children and Youth of Vallarta, as they have been referred to in places beyond the borders, are going through a great moment. Soon, some of the company members will begin to write a new chapter in their lives.

This, Professor Barrios says, “is not a crisis. On the contrary, it is a process that will help us improve, to better train the young members of the Xiutla. We continue to maintain a great level of performance; however, those who migrate are the most experienced. I know that both Maestra Raquel Rodriguez and Under director Jose Luis Mendoza, as well as myself, just like 13 years ago, will work tirelessly to continue on” the company founder said.

On other matters, the complement of the company, the Xiutla Regional Academy of Mexican Dance, will see the ground breaking ceremony by the end of the week. It is a space for Vallartans to learn about the cultural richness of our country. The ballet’s resume includes 976 appearances, six international tours and 18 national tours. It has been rewarded with a golden medal, the Vallarta Award, the Rafael Zamarripa Award, and the National Dance Award of the Technical Education General Administration.

Xiutla is one of the few guests of honor to the Jose Rosas Moreno Theater Centennial Festivities in Lagos de Moreno. Its appearance will be held on August 6, with a program including Mexican regional dances and the latest addition to the company’s repertoire, Ravel’s Bolero.
