Ada Colorina - The vibrant colors of the Tournament
By Jesus de Avila - November 2007

During the preparations for the Fishing Tournament of 2004, in spite of the technological advances that are apparent during the activities of the tournament, a dilemma a rose:

How to maintain the presence of the authentic flavor of our port for the duration of the whole event, as experienced and enjoyed in its beginnings almost fifty years ago?

It was a tough challenge, only solved when the organizing committee received the proposal of finding a local artist who could clearly cast the essence of Puerto Vallarta globally through just one work of art.

Ada Colorina was the first one proposed, though not the only one. Though comments about her and her work were immediately heard. Soon afterwards, due to the enthusiasm her work set in motion, it was decided to invite her not only to create the theme to be used throughout the tournament but to also participate with an exhibition under the theme “Fishing”.

Ada Colorina embarked on the task of creating a painting that would not only represent the most traditional tournament in Mexico, but one that would undoubtedly  portray the Vallartense spirit. The resulting piece was one where the vibrant colors mixed in a palette of hues – quite representative of the artist – framed a very accurate chronicle of the fishing town of Vallarta, telling its people’s history and showing scenes of the original tournament in its beginnings. The piece was not only accepted unanimously upon its presentation, but also led to asking the artist to start to work on the next piece which would commemorate the 50th anniversary of the tournament the following year.

From that moment on, the Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta (or Puerto Vallarta Fishing Club), made it official that, Ada  Colorina, with her fantastic and unequaled artistic performance, would be the Vallarta painter who would represent the Mexican tournament with colorina the richest history. Some of the most prized awards among the tournament’s participants are the pieces painted by her exclusively to be presented to the top winners.

This relationship between the painter and the tournament is bearing fruit and it showcases the union of art, sports, history, tourism and tradition as elements that benefit our destination, our people and our visitors.

Thanks to her participation in this tournament, Ada Colorina is known worldwide as the ambassador of the spirit of Mexico and the tournament retains the flavor of the town of Vallarta that charms everyone.

Ada Colorina was born on June 20, 1970 in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. At the age of nine years, under the influence of her father and teacher, Mr. Daniel Incháurregui B., she embarked on her venture to create a style based on singularly intense colors, through which she pictures Mexico’s folklore, this style is also the origin of the name after which Ada Colorina is renown worldwide.

Ada Colorina takes inspiration from her townsfolk, their daily chores and traditions, their “true essence”, in order to create and communicate that that vibrates in the eyes and the hearts of those of us who admire her art.
