Natura Nayarit 2008: Brushes United By Federico León de la Vega - March 2008
Our time will be remembered as one of strife between economic development and nature. The seriousness of the ecological problem and the decay in the quality of life cannot escape anybody. Television and all informative media have been increasing their coverage and we are all aware: ignorant is no longer an excuse. Competition for reaching higher standards of living demands more productivity, which results in less natural resources and time, more greed and less concern for our fellow man and for the rest of creation. Nevertheless we find creation to be an interdependent system, which if collapsed will collapse us all.
Our Banderas Bay region is unique for its natural riches surpasses most any other in the planet. Biological diversity here is remarkable, and to this we can add social diversity: different races, cultures and languages coexist peacefully. This peaceful coexistence is not easily found in other areas of our planet. The duty of the sensible, the visionary, and the creative is to participate in this strife by making others aware of beauty in nature and the great value of peaceful social diversity. Artist who find inspiration in nature, painting landscapes, animals, flowers, people laboring in the seas and fields, exalt the appreciation of values and create awareness. Artists can have a bearing on political and economic decisions: we may remember the case of “Guernica”, the Picasso painting which depicts the massacre of a Spanish village of that name. The controversy and indignation brought forth by this art work against the culprits was such that a bomb resistant glass and a special separate building was required for its exhibition, for it was feared the rest of the Del Prado Museum.
In consideration to the powerful effect art may have in the defense of nature and right livelihood, a group of painter artists from Banderas Bay invites all artists in the area (including some photographers and sculptors) to unite in the Natura Nayarit yearly show. This show will take place in my own Estudio-Café of Nuevo Vallarta march 13th to 16th. All nature living artists are invited to show and all the public is welcome to attend to our various activities.
