ART & CULTURE

Quantum Painting
By Eduardo Rincón-Gallardo • May 2009

Few people know me, because I was just born..

In my former life I was the very successful architect Sergio Gómez, born in Coahuila; who taught architecture for fifteen years at the Universidad de Coahuila and headed projects there and here in Puerto Vallarta, filling my life to an extent that a moment came when I decided to break away from it all. Because spiritually, I was full of nothing.

boatThis can be said fast and easy, but having my family and associates accept the uncertainty of their future welfare on one side and lack of guidance on the other, was a very traumatic process.

Today I am José Salazar; I am a quantum painter and sculptor, my work, my paintings are not abstract or pointillist, like that of Seurat or Van Gogh. They are simply aimed at, somehow, showing what we see, without seeing; the molecular, atomic and subatomic structure, and why not, the galactic structure of our universe, or rather, our universes.

Through my work, I would like to awaken people’s minds, to show them the real world hidden behind what we think we are seeing in our perception of the unreal.

With my work I want to stimulate the spirit of so many young people without drive or direction whom I ask: What are you going to study? And they tell me: “I don’t know, something that makes me money, but I really don’t know what there is”. I recall my colleagues, who, when asked the same question, would euphorically say: I am going to be an electronics engineer! or industrial designer! Among a wide range of different aspirations.

I have seen three decades pass by which shook and traumatized me. I have seen a world confused.among the works of artists and quacks; people losing their trust in the value of art  I have also seen my colleagues in theatres of suicide, selling anything from books, to insurance policies, to their very own desperation.

boatToday Eduardo visited my studio; he is an invited intruder because he invited himself.

Among our newfound affinities we found that we did not intend to convince each other of anything at all. Neither did we want to sell each other any goods or ideas.

Today is the first time since I came back from Europe that I can talk and share my passion for quantum physics, my favorite field; and astrophysics, the one to which Eduardo is particularly inclined. There is hope. For the moment I am not promoting or selling my work, but my project is nearing completion; I hope to be able to count on the synergy of those seeking a better world and ready to launch it at once!

The site is my studio, there could hardly be a better place for this encounter, we enjoy the sight of the whole Bay of Banderas, surrounded by tropical jungle, guarded by my “observers”, a sculpture duo I designed to keep me company and always remind me of our ever-changing environment and that the only constant is change.Email to a friend
