PAINTER ADVENTURES

Sylvia’s (Peaceful) Morning

By Federico León de la Vega - July 2009

One peaceful Summer morning Sylvia was driving down a boulevard. The road was lined with blooming Primavera trees. She sighed. She had always wished to reach for those bright yellow flowers that bloom from  the Primaveras this time of the year, but the trees are so tall. This year the blooms are so full their weight has made the branches droop; the flowers looked reachable. So she pulled over, parked her car and walked to the trees.

Witty

While turning and twisting a little branch full of yellow flowers she caught, with the corner of her eye, the view of a passing by car that looked just like hers…it was hers! With a yellow bouquet in her hand and not totally sure of what was happening, she started walking to the car, then running. The road had appeared to be flat, but it wasn’t. The car was gravitating down, picking up speed. So Sylvia panicked and began running as fast as she could. Her high heels made her ankles bend sideways, she almost lost her footing, so she flew the pumps out and ran faster. She reached for the driver’s door... it was locked! The back door was locked as well. So she grabbed the handle and pulled back to stop the car. The car slowed down a bit, but Sylvia -a conscious nutriologist who keeps trim- is only 115lb, so the half a ton vehicle kept rolling down. Now it was taking a slight turn, bearing to the right, aiming directly to a beautiful new home, while Syvia was turning purple with effort and sweating. The car hit the curb and climbed on the sidewalk and just when it was about to hit the house, the next set of wheels caught on the curb, which worked as train rails.  Sylvia’s car now rode straight on the sidewalk. A fancy pick up truck was parked on a neighbor’s driveway, not quite all the way in… it seemed right in line with the new direction the runaway had taken…whoosh! missed by a couple of inches! After this hurdle, the car bounced back to the street, now bearing to the left. Sylvia saw the one door on the back, on the other side of the car was unlocked, so in a dash she went around and opened it. She jumped inside, James Bond style, the car then hit the left curb, climbing on the boulevard division. Ahead, from her back seat, Sylvia could see the river approaching…and a very large construction hole on the left, with wires and steel sticking out. So she flew to the front seat, never mind the skirt, pulled herself to the driving position and slammed on what she supposed would be the brake pedal. It WAS the brake pedal! The car stopped, finally. Sylvia’s foot remained glued to the pedal while her limbs shook and shook and shook.

When she could at last catch her breath, she reached for her hand bag, fumbled for her cel phone and called her dear friend Javier. Calm as always and ready to help, Javier soothed Sylvia and drove to get her home. What are you doing here? He asked…and have you noticed the size of this deep hole you are parked by? All is well that ends well.

Later on that afternoon, Sylvia went back to finish cutting her lovely yellow flowers. True story. Heard at the Estudio-café, among many others. Email to a friend.
