Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit are destinations already renowned for their visual arts, which are affected by influences from the four corners of the world. Within this artistic universe, a very special place is reserved to paintings; at first sight, given the wide array of works being shown constantly at various shows and galleries, it would appear as there being no room for something “new” or “different”. However, with the work of José Baldi, an artist from Tepozotlán in the state of México, something refreshingly and pleasantly surprising appeared on the scene. Living among us for several years now, he has brought about a sort of dramatic realism, immersed in soft and firm strokes, or intense and flexible tones and hues, masterly achieved through an extraordinary ability evident to anyone admiring his work.
The artist’s paintings are a vibrant testimony of persevering discipline, firmly attached to a spirit of unending adventure and innovation; catching the eye of every passing heart that is immediately captured and invited to dive into its strokes or to follow every line on the canvases, like fine and subtle paths towards the depth the painter shares with us.
Technique? It is of course well educated and it shows in every stroke, but that in reality does not count in the soul of the spectator. While an apparent calm shows in those probing every space of the artist’s paintings, waves of boiling emotion are felt within, generated by the colors and shades, the detail, the textures and more, used by the painter to impress the lives of those who dare to accept the challenge of observing.
The work of José Baldi is not only the result of a wealth of experiences, it is also the logical consequence achieved while “being” someone in continuous experimentation of the intimate connection, within the natural context that proclaims a Divine presence in everything.
“Admiring your work is like a refreshing balm running inside of me, asking me to admire and acknowledge such a clear way to express the beauty and greatness of God in each and every one of the themes you paint”.
