Puerto Vallarta is the spirit
of Mexico and Ada Colorina is the one who interprets, captures and transmits its
essence most faithfully through her paintings and other works. She continues to
capture the daily life of a town and its people in her own authentic style, people
who have managed to maintain the essence of a pueblo through the years and the
inevitable progress. To admire Ada Colorina's works is to
get a glimpse into the heart of a Vallartan who feels, suffers, enjoys and fights
to survive in a world full of hurry, hustle and bustle. They allow us to see that
there is still joy in our world, a joy that can be found in this heart so big
and so ready to give love through its art. God gave Ada the ability to observe,
perceive, discern, capture and transmit what the people of this town feel in their
deepest innermost self, something no one will ever take away from them
"the
joy of living." Ada was born on June 20th, 1970,
in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. At the age of nine, under the influence and tutelage
of her father, Sr. Daniel Incháurregui, Ada began to paint Christmas cards
and small canvases that she gave away or sold to her neighbors and acquaintances.
Thus began her search in a style based on her particular colorful palette ...and
that is how she got the name by which she is known around the world today - "colorina".
At 16, she participated in collective exhibits along
with renowned painters like Javier Niño, Regino Carrillo and Manuel Martínez,
among others. Her style has been characterized by its great imagination and fresh
colors that combine to capture the folklore of Puerto Vallarta. Today
in her studio and gallery, Ada continues to be inspired by her pueblo, its customs
and traditions... "in their essence", to create and capture on canvas
that which makes her heart beat faster. Beside canvases, her painting can also
be admired on walls, decorative items, embroideries, postcards, etc.
Through
her art, Ada Colorina puts us in contact with the best of our selves. She reconnects
us strongly with our inner child, spontaneously redirecting us towards a deliriously
delicious fantasy derived from an artist's reality. Some
time ago, Ada wanted to set up her own gallery and thanks to her efforts and determination,
what was just a dream has become a reality today in an area of her warm home,
where her studio and gallery are now located. To visit there is to be transported
to a world of simplicity and inspiration. It is more than just walking into a
place to see a painting exhibition. It is a visit to a typical Vallarta home where
simply breathing in the air transports the visitor to the intimacy of an artist
who is also a mother, daughter, sister, woman and very much a Vallartan. Ada
Colorina's home is located on the outskirts of Vallarta, in a colonia known as
Paso Ancho. It is just above the main road parallel to the Cuale River. The windows
of the house look out onto a mountain wall which the rain waters use as a path
to the river during the rainy season, creating a beautiful waterfall that enhances
the environment and provides fantastic entertainment for the kids in the "barrio".
To be here is an entire cultural and educational experience that enables us to
appreciate the authentic everyday life of a people that has remained linked to
its roots and to nature
despite the arrival of progress. It is a combination
of a sightseeing and a cultural tour because to get there, whether by bus, car
or foot, you have to enter a part of the city's heart that very few tourists would
imagine exists. The
path leading to the studio and gallery passes through a world surrounded by cobblestone
streets and lush jungle, a place where the authentic everyday life of a people
lies just beneath the surface - to be appreciated, respected and enjoyed. On the
way, we can also admire the hanging bridges originally built so many years ago
that are still used by the families that cross the river every day to go into
town. We can also see the little grocery stores where neighbors get their basic
products. The visitor can photograph the street stands where corn is sold in its
various forms, and enjoy the frozen fresh fruit bars (paletas) and the garrafa
ices sold by Don Juan - the character who has been the most eagerly awaited by
the neighborhood children on Sundays for over 30 years.
The
concept of Ada Colorina's gallery is definitely different, unlike the art and/or
commercial galleries in town. There the artist welcomes the visitor personally
and on the night of the inauguration, it was impressive to see the number of people
who had braved what seemed at times to be "uncharted territory", just
to get to her place. The place was full and many renowned local artists were there
too. There were delicious finger foods, drinks, laughter and conversation. It
felt as if the joy of LIFE depicted in Ada's paintings had become contagious,
causing everyone to be happy. The studio and gallery
are open to the public at large every day and most often, Ada Colorina is there
to welcome you personally. Archives
