Le Cirque du Soleil: joy, color,
fantasy and magic

If you saw the last Academy Awards,
then you will surely remember the impressive show put
on by the acrobats and malabaristas that surprised the
Hollywood stars, causing them to stand up and applaud
estruendosamente while viewers were hypnotized by the
performance. According to American commentators, this
was one of the most spectacular numbers ever presented
in the history of the Oscars. That was Le Cirque du
Soleil which, ever since its creation in 1984, has reaped
continuous success on this continent and in Europa
The Cirque du Soleil was born from
the creative will and spirit of Québecois Guy
Laliberté, a Canadian who could see talent where
others could not. He surrounded himself with a group
of street artists in whom he found the will and creativity
needed to form a young company, full of ambition.
Nearly twenty years later and despite
the success and support of institutions and sponsors,
the spirit that moves what has become a macrotroupe
today has remained intact. Among many other things,
we must be grateful to the Cirque du Soleil for bringing
us closer to the world of the circus through artists
of different origins and with different concepts of
art, who also perform it in a manner so beautiful, unseen
until now.
Every performance by the Cirque du
Soleil surprises and moves us, from the moment it begins
until its closing notes. They are a fiesta full of color
and joy that transports us to a world of fantasy, good
humor and optimism.
This group's performances makes going
to the movie theater worthwhile, and although they have
not reached Vallarta yet, L'Opera theater has been offering
us the opportunity to watch its shows through five films
shown every Friday throughout the month of May. As the
synopsis states, "The Cirque du Soleil is not a
circus, it is the most innovative, fantastic artistic
conjugation of elements such as music, dance, theater,
performance, acrobatics, all touched by an intangible
magic." Showings at 4:00, 6:00, 8:00.
