The Department of Fine Arts of the state of Jalisco
initiated promotion for culture and the arts in our
city in 1978, naming Sr. Jorge Souza Jaufred as delegate,
a man with a degree in philosophy and letters.
That is when the Puerto
Vallarta Trust dedicated commercial locales at
the eastern tip of the island of the Rio Cuale
as the sites for the artistic and cultural workshops
of the Fine Arts Department of Jalisco in our town.
Various workshops began, among which Folkloric
Dance headed by Professor Tomás
Arizmendi, theater directed by Alberto Fabián,
literature led by Licenciado Jorge Souza and painting
for adults and children, which I directed. Manuel
Martínez, José Marca, Caty Huet, Juan
Pueblo, Antonio García, and Pedro Vázquez
also participated in this painting workshop, where
an exhibition space was also opened.
Along with this group of
painters, we looked for other spaces where we could
exhibit our work and we did so in a permanent fashion
in Hidalgo Park, Los Arcos, the "new" bridge over the Río Cuale
and the gallery of the Cuale Cultural Center now
occupied by the Vallarta Cultural Center. Other painters
who supported this movement afterwards were Daniel
Inchaurregui, Manuel Martínez, Regino Carrillo,
Jesús Peinado, Roberto Bermejo, Pío
Nancy, Dr. Ayotl, Elena Munguía, Carlos Munguía,
Pico Resendiz, and many others whose names I cannot
recall at the moment. What is for sure is that from
1980 onwards, dozens of painters and sculptors arrived
in our town and many stayed. It is very difficult
to determine exactly how many there are today, but
the number is surely quite high. We should also mention
that most of the painters who exhibit their work
in the local galleries live in other states of the
Mexican Republic and other foreign countries.
Finally, I should tell you that throughout those
fifty-three years of art in our city, various art
galleries have opened, and while some were short-lived,
others are still operating, showing the work of some
artists.

Bellas Artes en Puerto Vallarta.

El Departamento de Bellas
Artes del estado de Jalisco inició en nuestra ciudad actividades de promoción
del arte y la cultura en 1978, nombrando como delegado
al licenciado en filosofía y letras al señor
Jorge Souza Jaufred.
Es en esta fecha cuando
el Fideicomiso de Puerto Vallarta destinó los locales comerciales del
lado oriente de la isla del Rió Cuale como
sede de los talleres artísticos y culturales
del Departamento de Bellas Artes de Jalisco en nuestra
ciudad, se iniciaron varios talleres, entre ellos
el de Danza Folclórica a cargo el profesor
Tomás Arizmendi, el taller de teatro bajo
la dirección de Alberto Fabián, el
de literatura a cargo del Licenciado Jorge
Souza y el de pintura para adulos y niños
el cual yo dirigí. En este taller de pintura
también colaboraron Manuel Martínez,
José Marca, Caty Huet, Juan Pueblo, Antonio
García, y Pedro Vázquez, abriéndose
también una sala de exhibiciones.
Con este grupo de pintores
buscamos otros espacios en donde exhibir nuestros
trabajos y lo hicimos permanentemente en el parque
Hidalgo, la plaza de los arcos, y el puente nuevo
del Río Cuale, desde entonces
pues, funcionan los espacios de los pintores de los
arcos del malecón, el que esta bjoo el puente
del Río Cuale y la galería del centro
cultural Cuale que hoy ocupa el Centro Cultural
Vallartense. Otros pintores que posteriormente apoyaron
este movimiento fueron: Daniel Inchaurregui, Manuel
Martínez, Regino Carrillo, Jesús Peinado,
Roberto Bermejo, Pío Nancy, Dr. Ayotl, Elena
Murguía, Carlos Murguía, Pico Resendiz,
y muchos más que por el momento escapan a
mi memoria. Lo cierto es que a partir del año
de 1980 llegaron decenas de pintores y escultores
a nuestra ciudad y muchos se quedaron. Hoy en día
es muy difícil saber cuantos artistas hay,
pero definitivamente el número es es bastante
grande, cabe anotar que la gran mayoría de
los pintores que exhiben sus trabajos en las galerías
locales son pintores que radican en otros estados
de la República Mexicana y en extranjero.
Por último les comento que a lo largo de
estos cincuenta y tres años de arte en nuestra
ciudad, también el número de diversas
galerías que se han abierto han abierto muchas,
y aunque algunas fueron fugaces, otras permanecen
exhibiendo la obra de algunos artistas. Hasta la próxima, Javier Niño
