| Día de Muertos Celebrations |
| October 21 , 2002. | Día
de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is one of Mexico's most interesting fiestas. It is
believed the souls of the dead return to earth this day. Families and groups build
altars to their departed loved ones and take gifts of their loved ones favourite
food and drink to the altars. The Hotel Molino de Agua has made a wonderful offer
to Becas Vallarta (the Scholarship Fund). They are going to have a traditional
"Día de Muertos " on Saturday, November 2nd, 2002, and Becas
Vallarta will receive a percentage of the price of each ticket sold by our members.
The northwest section of the Molina de Agua grounds (next
to the fence bordering the river) will be the location of a cemetery where participants
can erect an altar or tomb honoring their loved ones who have died. You are invited
to erect altars or tombs. The grounds will be available for selecting your site
and building altars Thursday, October 31st, Friday, November 1st and Saturday,
November 2nd. The evening of Saturday, November 2nd there
will be a traditional Día de Muertos dinner and awards for various categories
of altars (at 11:00 pm). Musicians will be available for hire to play the favorite
songs of departed loved ones. Dinner, starting at 8:00 p.m.
will include: pan de Muertos, bollitos, dulces de calabaza, mole, tamales, bañuelos,
hojaldras, atole, coffee and anis, punch and other traditional Mexican plates.
There will be a cash bar. This is an opportunity for the expatriate
population to experience a traditional Día de Muertos while supporting
the scholarship program. The Molino de Agua is at 130 Ignacio
L. Vallarta Street (corner of Aquiles Serdán). There is parking on Aquiles
Serdán and in the hotel parking lot. Phone 222-1907 for more information. Tickets
are $200. pesos per person for dinner and your choice of a lot for your altar
should you choose to set one up. Tickets are available from any Becas Vallarta
