Dental Tourism in Mexico: Traveling for Tooth Care
By VisitandCare.com

Although regular dental care, including dental exams and cleanings, are essential for good overall health, half of American children and adults unfortunately go without.

According to a report released in July by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and the National Research Council (NRC), millions of people in the United States lack access to dental care because there aren't enough dentists available and people simply cannot afford it.

Puerto Vallarta Dentist "The consequences of insufficient access to oral health care and resultant poor oral health – at both the individual and population levels – are far reaching. As the nation struggles to address the larger systemic issues of access to health care, we need to ensure that oral health is recognized as a basic component of overall health," said IOM committee chairman and professor of pediatrics, Ferderick P. Rivara, MD, in an IOM/NRC press release.

The report stated that a total of 33 million American people live in areas that are under-served by dental health professionals. On top of that, 4.6 million children went without dental checkups in 2008 because their families couldn't afford them. The survey also found that in 2006 alone, almost two-thirds of retirees did not have adequate dental insurance coverage.

Because poor dental health is directly linked to heart disease and stroke, along with a myriad of serious oral health issues, these figures are totally unacceptable.

Patients of all ages have the right to quality dental care, but if they can't even afford the costs in their own country, then where on Earth do they turn to?

Despite the lack of affordable, not to mention available, dental services in the United States, patients do have another practical option to keep their teeth healthy and beautiful: dental tourism in Mexico.

Mexico, the United States' neighbor to the south, is already well known as a beautiful place to vacation. Thousands of Americans travel to Mexico each year to soak up the sun, dance the nights away, and enjoy world famous Mexican cuisine and hospitality.

Dental tourism in Mexico is a rapidly growing trend, allowing patients a chance for an unforgettable vacation and superior, yet affordable dental care.

Thousands of American patients are taking advantage of this unique opportunity, and the numbers continue to skyrocket each year.

Dentists in Mexico are highly experienced, and many of them have trained right alongside dentists in the United States. Patients of all ages can reap the benefits of being treated by talented dentists in Mexico.

Top dental clinics in Mexico offer the very same high caliber when it comes to services, technology and expertise; everything from general dentistry, to more complex reconstructive and cosmetic procedures like dental bridges, dental crowns, dental veneers, and dental implants are performed at a superior level.

The only major differences between the two nations are price and location; and Mexico's affordable dental care (with prices up to 70 percent less) and breathtaking scenery truly makes it stand out as one of the most in-demand dental tourism locations for American patients.

World-class dentists in Mexico are situated all over the Central American country, allowing dental tourists a variety of options when seeking out dental care.

Dentists in Los Algodones, Mexico, for example are all about convenience. Just a short drive from the U.S. border, top-quality dentists are abundant in this location, which is affectionately known as "Molar City".

For dental tourists looking to extend their stay, dentists in Guadalajara, Cancun, and Los Cabos provide patients with superior, inexpensive dental work in Mexico, and also offer dental "vacation packages", complete with a concierge-like service to accommodate patients during every aspect of their visit.

With so many outstanding benefits, it's clear why dental tourism in Mexico is a booming industry.

Experts, like Ron Vinuland, recommend first time dental tourists do their research before embarking on their dental vacation.

He said, "You have to know where to go. You'll have a great experience there, at a significantly less cost, if you do your research. You get the same experience as the U.S., at a fraction of the cost. That's why it's gotten so much attention."

Attention that is well deserved, as the benefits of receiving dental care in Mexico go way beyond being easy on the wallet.

English-speaking dentists in Mexico are highly qualified, well equipped, and committed to maintaining their excellent reputation as a top dental tourism destination. Email to a friend
