What's up? Well things just went
from good to gooder! (Excuse the grammar
I went
to a California High School) The first rain has filled
the bay with football-size Tuna, Sailfish and as many
Dodo's (Mahi-Mahi or Dorado) as you want to put on the
boat. That's what's happening inside the bay.
Outside the bay, Big Black Marlin
and Giant Yellowfin Tuna, along with the Big "Girls"
Wahoo, Dorado & Sails and 50- to 70-pound Tuna.
So, pick what you want and get out there now!
Inside of the bay just turned on,
the first good rain has finally brought a bay full of
fish to Puerto Vallarta. Usually, it starts raining
about the 15th of May and it's late. It may be due to
the El Niño prediction this year. That being
the case or not, the bay is happening now. Half-day
& ¾-day trips will put you onto the fish,
nothing being too big but real good action on small
Tuna and Dorado. Troll small lures and hoochies on the
ocean side of the scum line and you'll stuff the boat
with Dorado. Same advice as last week: get a live bait
in the water after a hook-up. Another sure fire way
to pick-up a Dorado and a good possibility of a Sailfish
is to slow troll Google Eyes in the same area. The Tuna
and Sails seem to be out from Bucerias and by the Marieta
Islands. Find the birds and troll dead mullets on Google
Eyes for Sails and small lures for the Tuna. One thing
for sure is whatever it is that you want that's running
inside the bay, you can count on getting it. I love
P.V.!
It's just the start of what should
be another great year for the big stuff. "HIGH
MAINTENANCE" had another fantastic day, Tuesday
the 11th with a 670-pound Black Marlin. It devoured
a live Skipjack, as soon as the outrigger popped he
came out of the water and he was hooked deep. A few
shakes of the head back in the water and like a freight
train, the fish stayed up on the surface ripping line
off the Shimano 80 before Captain Steve could turn the
boat around to chase it down. It had taken ¾
of a spool of line. Then she went down and stayed down
until she came to leader. She then freaked out and jumped
4 times at the back of the boat. It was over, the fish
of a lifetime and the biggest smile you could imagine
on a now "hooked" fisherman, on off-shore
fishing. Great job, Jeff Whitney! Jeff mounted his monster
through Gray's Taxidermy and has proof that Puerto Vallarta
is "The Sea of Giants"!
If you would like to rent a charter
boat and know exactly what you are getting, then stop
into either MASTER BAITER'S SPORTFISHING & TACKLE
locations: Downtown at 164 Morelos Street, tel.: 222-7239
or Marina Vallarta, when facing the water 3 doors to
your right of the lighthouse, tel.:209-0498. You will
receive an accurate description and the right boat,
crew and equipment for what you want to catch. You can
freeze, smoke or mount (stuff) your catch to take home.
Their company-owned boats (including the "High
Maintenance" that is the winner of the WORLD CHAMPION
TEAM award 2 years in a row!) offer you a money back
guarantee, that you catch a game fish, that's how confident
they are. If you are just 1 or two people, then ask
about sharing a boat. As our famous T-shirts say, "We
won't jerk you around".
