"Get
out and get out now!" That's what you will be told
when trying to rent a charter boat in Puerto Vallarta.
Get out there because the Big Tuna are back, after a
lull or slow down on the Big Tuna, they have returned
this week. It's been a great week for Giant Yellowfin
Tuna, Strike One a 38-foot Luhrs Express boated 2 over
300 lbs. on Monday, along with another 2 about the same
size that didn't make it to the boat. The two that didn't
make it ate the short riggers and wrapped each other,
the two novice anglers, kind of
. How should I
say it? Freaked out and froze as the two took off in
opposite directions and cut each other off. It was reported
that these men wanted to kill each other. Luckily 20
minutes later another double hook-up, one short and
one long rigger, both fish were boated. The anglers
forgot about the two in the past that got away and again
are best friends.
It's amazing how at times something
that seems so bad can be just a prelude to the best
time in your life. So, if one gets away, don't give
up or throw in the towel, put it in the past and be
optimistic about the future. You never know when the
Marlin (Tuna) is going to strike. Not to mention, we
don't want people killing each other on our charter
boats, the Port Captain won't understand! Strike One
also boated an 850-pound plus Black Marlin this week.
Way to go, Bill! After attending John's (my) school,
"The art of Big Game Fishing" things are starting
to pay off. This week's lesson will be how to pick things
up without breaking your hand! Just kidding, Bill!
Tonya
Too and Yolaray are also having a great week. Tonya
Too boated 2 Tuna over 300 pounds and seven weighing
in at 220 to 290 lbs. The Yellowfin are still a bit
skinny due to traveling. Now that they are here, they
will be gorging themselves on small Tuna and Skipjack,
400 pounders are just around the corner. Tonya Too also
released 4 Black Marlin and 11 Wahoo made it to dinner
plates. Yolaray had very similar numbers. All in all,
fishing is good here in Puerto Vallarta, so get out
there now!
Now, for the big, big news here in
Puerto Vallarta. The WBS, World Billfish Series is working
on adding Puerto Vallarta to their list of the most
prestigious Billfish Tournaments in the world! Due to
the diligence and determination of Tonya Gabruk, co-owner
of "Master Baiter's Sportfishing & Tackle",
and her commitment to let the world know that if you
want a 500-lb plus Black Marlin, all the Sails you can
catch and the incredible number of 200-lb plus Giant
Yellowfin Tuna that fill the waters surrounding Puerto
Vallarta, you can get them. The word is out now, but
it wasn't known prior to Tonya bombarding the industry
leaders with pictures and e-mails of the most unbelievable
amount of huge fish that people have and do catch here.
The facts could not be ignored. Wayne Bisbee and associated
were the first to recognize the potential of having
a world class tournament in Vallarta. In 2000 to wrap
up the year with the Grand Championship of Billfishing
Tournament, right here in P.V. Due to the enormous success
P.V. is having right now where that tournament has found
its home. Now, through a combined effort of Sr. Carlos
De Leon, Director General Director of the Office of
Conventions and Visitors Tourism Trust, Mr. James R.
Simons, President & CEO of the World Billfish Series
/ SportsUSA Group, Inc, Mr. Wayne Bisbee, President
of the Bisbee Tournament and our very own Tonya Gabruk
of Master Baiter's Sportfishing & Tackle are in
process of adding Puerto Vallarta to WBS IOC Pacific
Division event on an annual basis in PV as part of the
WBS 2003 World Tour. Mr. Jim Simons asked Tonya, and
I quote "with your involvement as the tournament
director (if that is something you would like to undertake),
this could become one of the more prestigious stops
on the tour" which currently has events in Tahiti,
Costa Rica, Hawaii, East Cape, Cabo San Lucas (in Baja
California) and Mazatlan, and will be adding several
in Australia and the Pacific Rim. Which will then return
to Vallarta to crown one skillful angler as the "Top
Bill Fisherman of the World".
Putting
tournaments of this magnitude is not an easy feat at
best. Coordinating an international tournament takes
dedication, determination, skill and patients. So, to
appoint a tournament director, special consideration
has to be taken after a careful evaluation of persons
qualified for this position. Way to go, Tonya! We all
know they couldn't have picked a more qualified person!
Bringing this tournament will be a feather in the cap
of all persons involved and will put P.V. even more
in the spotlight as a "World Class" fishing
destination. A special thanks to Sr. Carlos De Leon
for having the insight to recognize and capitalize on
one of the best kept secrets in the world
that
God has gifted Puerto Vallarta with some of the best
fishing in the world and now the world will know that
Puerto Vallarta is the "Sea of Giants"
Sr. Carlos De Leon is also the man
responsible for bringing the PGA's EMC2 Golf Tournament
to P.V. His dedication for bringing these world class
events will increase the quality and quantity of tourism
to Vallarta - which will benefit everyone. Sr. De Leon
is the man that can and will get the job done! Great
job, your efforts have not gone unnoticed!
