Frenzy" #55 Weekly Fishing Report | | by

The giants are back, the season this year has been the strangest I've seen in
10 years! I don't know if it's due to global warming, a semi El Nino effect or
just Senor Neptune messing with us. Whatever it was, things are looking like they
are back to normal again. The strangeness I'm referring to is the sporadic water
conditions. Normally mid May the water outside the bay, Corbetania & The Bank,
turns from green to blue and starts warming up. This year the water started warming
at the correct time but it stayed green. This went on through September and because
of this, the Giant Yellowfin & Black Marlin never set in as usual. When the
water was blue, they were here but when the water changed they were gone. It was
very frustrating for fisherman booking charters months or weeks in advance along
with the charter companies. After personally researching this unusual fin-mania,
I've found this condition happens every 7 to 10 years here in Puerto Vallarta.
Thank Neptune, it's over and done! The good news is the water is blue-blue blue
and hot! This has us all welcoming the return of the giants. This
week was a great week for Black Marlin. All you had to do was get out there and
pout a live bait in the water or drag a few lures and you were assured a Black
Marlin strike. Monday, The Tonya Too, a 29 ft center console owned by Master Baiter's
Sportfishing & Tackle had 5, yes 5 Marlin strikes. One spooled a Shimano 80
with 41 lbs of drag full. The other four made it to the side of the boat and were
released. The largest, a 600 lb plus and the smallest approx. 320 lbs. Tonya Too
accounted for 4 additional Marlin, 16 Dorado , 4 Sailfish and one 230 lb Yellowfin
Tuna with many 15 to 30 lb Tuna. High Maintenance
and Captain Steve were ripping it up this week. They found a floating sheet of
plywood between the Bank and Corbetania and 40 to 70 lb Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) were
so thick under it, as soon as Steve or Oscar would cast a live Google Eye under
it, they would run into each other going after the bait. When they ran out of
bait, stripped Dorado bellies worked fine. 10 big Dorado were boated with 15 being
released. The Master Baiter Team & employees will be eating Dorado for weeks.
Capt. Steve and Oscar also had 7 Black Marlin, 7 Sailfish, 10 Wahoo and 2 Giant
Yellowfin Tuna (260 & 314 lbs). So, the giants are back and it's only the
beginning. The Tuna are down now most of the time and a downrigger is your best
bet for the big Tuna. For all your fishing tackle, charter
