Puerto
Vallarta continues to be amazingly good. Any trip will produce excellent results.
The weather continues to stay warm inside and outside of the bay, and along with
it, any fish (species) found primarily in the summer months can and is still being
caught now. Usually at this time of the year, the Black Marlin
along with the big Tuna have moved south. Not so this year. Outside of the bay
at Corbetania (36 miles from Marina Vallarta) or El Banco (49 miles), Black Marlin
can be seen jumping and are being hooked on a daily basis. It's wide open for
Yellow Fin Tuna at both outside spots in the 40 to 150 pound range with many 200+
pound fish being boated. The "Tonya Too" of Master Baiter's Sportfishing
and Tackle went to Corbetania twice and the Bank twice this week and came home
victorious on all four occasions. The Corbetania trips produced 6 Yellow Fin Tuna
60 to 140 pounds, one Black Marlin (released) approximately 375 pounds and 4 large
Dorado averaging 25 pounds. Again this week, the Bank was
the hot spot with 9 Yellow Fin Tuna, 4 over 150 pounds and the largest was 264
pounds caught by a first-time deep sea fisherman from Wisconsin, Adam Henderson,
23 years old. After his return, he said, "I thought I would never get it
in. It almost pulled me over the side twice!" Don't worry sport fans. We
hook the rod to a safety line for safety. The worst thing that could have happened
is that he would have drank a bit of salt water! 2 Wahoo, 3 Sailfish, and 2 Dorado
were also accounted for on the two-day Bank trip. Captain Freddie said they were
hooked up to something the entire time they were out! Way to go guys!! We love
it when the clients catch till they drop! Punta Mita has been
a great choice for Sailfish, Dorado, and school-size Tuna. Dorado is the most
abundant fish in this area and trolling dead mullets along with medium lures are
still producing the majority of hookups. Sails are also being caught using this
same type of bait. When you see birds diving, it probably means a school of Dolphin
with Tuna heading the way, and moving cedar plugs of any color fast in front of
the Dolphin will assure multiple hookups. Now
for the QUESTION of the week. How do I rent a charter boat for what I want to
catch? What do I need to know to make a good choice? I suggest making an informed
decision. Let them know how many people you are & what you want to catch.
Be sure to go to the fishing grounds catching what interests you. If you want
big fish do NOT rent a Bay charter, there has only been 1 marlin caught in the
bay in the last 7 years. You would need to go to Corbetania or El Banco. If you
want to catch Tuna, then it's a must to have a boat with tuna tubes to keep the
large bait alive for both tuna & marlin. Be sure there are numerous lures
so no matter what the fish are biting, you have several in the boats arsenal.
If you are fishing the outer bank where the water is very deep, it's a major benefit
to have a boat with a downrigger. This will bring you line down to where the fish
are. There are different crews that specialize in different types of fishing &
the boat you choose needs to be equipped. for what you want to catch. Try to avoid
the question "How much for a charter", get all the information to make
an informed decision. Travel time is a big one; if you are going to Corbetania
(36 miles out) some boats (TONYA TOO & HIGH MAINTENANCE) take 1-½ hours
to get there, most while others take 2 1/2 hours. The difference is 5 hours fishing
time or 3 hours on an 8-hour charter. WOW! Have you ever been out fishing and
1 boat is hooking up all day and others aren't? Another reason for this is fluoro
carbon leeder, fluoro carbon costs about $35 usd per leeder and regular leeder
costs about $2 usd. The catch ratio is 10 fish to 1. This is a big reason MASTER
BAITER'S SPORTFISHING & TACKLE gives a MONEY BACK GUARANTEED CATCH! (Company
owned boats only, Tonya Too & High Maintenance). If you rent a charter boat
without fluoro carbon, you should buy one for yourself. It will make a big improvement
on your catch success. For more information stop by Master Baiter's Sportfishing
& Tackle in MARINA VALLARTA (ask to get out at the lighthouse, we are 2 doors
from Captain Morgan Restaurant), the outside is painted with fish. Tonya is there
to help you Mon-Fri 10am to 6pm & Saturday 10am to 3pm. www.mbsportfishing.com
