Great
news, the "HIGH MAINTENANCE", a 35 ft Luhrs flybridge convertible is
back in the water. After a long spell in dry dock while she was being re-powered.
She is now back! The #1 rated charter boat in Puerto Vallarta now has two 330
hp Cummings diesel's that has replaced the 300 hp Detroit's. High Maintenance
was the fastest charter boat in her class here in P.V. & now with the additional
30 hp per engine & the 50% reduction in engine weight, she'll fly. Corbetania
is now 1 hour & 15 minutes away (average charter boat 2 ½ hrs) &
the Bank is less than 2 hours (average charter boat 3 ½ hrs)! This along
with Captain Steve's two W.B.S. World Champion Captain Titles guarantees more
big fish hitting the decks & being released in Vallarta. Skill & speed
is all you need to catch at the most productive outside hotspots and with the
"High Maintenance" back in the water, the fish counts will soar!
Now to the fish
Dorado & small tuna can be caught
inside of the bay with an occasional sailfish but they are few & far between.
Also, inside of the bay you will find roosterfish and jack crevalle in tight,
up against the shore, trolling or surfcasting will pick both of those up.
Outside the bay is where it starts to pick up. Just outside the dorado & tuna
start to increase in size & numbers, the tuna to 40 lbs. This is where you
will start seeing the sails. Moving out towards El Morro, you will find the same
until you get to about 3 miles from Corbetania, then the tuna & dorado start
to increase in size, tuna 50 to 150 pounds are all around Corbetania now &
have been for a few weeks. The problem is they are being a bit finicky, one day
dead bait trolled is all that will work, the next day red & white lures, then
black & purple, then the most frustrating "nothing works". Hundreds
of tuna jumping all around the boat and nothing you do will get you hooked up,
that's the time you need to stop and deep jig for tuna. 2 to 4 oz diamond jigs
or something similar will usually get you hooked up when this weirdness is happening
on the surface. Have your captain stop the boat & jig. Of coarse the boat
has to have these jigs onboard to do this. To ensure the possibility, ask the
captain of the charter boat if they have these jigs. Not all boats are equipped
equally, any boat chartered through Master Baiter's Sportfishing & Tackle
is and will be fully equip, that's the benefit of booking through a reputable
tackle store that has a reputation to uphold & one that's established.
The Bank is hot as usual wahoo, dorado & big tuna continue to hang in strong,
but it seems the marlin have moved south for the winter, none have been reported
by anyone this week. All in all things are good have in PV. Sunny warm days and
cool nights, life in paradise is hard to take but someone has to do it.
Stop by Master Baiter's Sportfishing & Tackle, "Where fishing is catching"
