FISHING REPORT

#79 Weekly Fishing Report

by John Gabruk
August 17, 2003.

Back at ya, with some incredible news. Big big black marlin is going off at the Bank, this week has produced the largest fish ever caught in Puerto Vallarta, or all of Mexico, EVER, Juan Jaime aboard the 65 ocean "Sea Arrow".

With Capt. Adolfo Sandoval and mate Victor M. Torres caught the largest black marlin ever taken or recorded in all of Mexico, this monster taped in at 1270 lbs. That's right 1270, this fish was measured by two IGFA weight masters and using the IGFA formula. It taped in at an incredible 1270 lbs. (taped formula does not qualify for world records)

This monster was caught with a 655 XXH Calstar rod, a Shimano tiagra 50 lrs. and 80fd lb isorline. After catching a 7 lb skipjack, it was bridled and put out. The angler had the Calstar rod in his hands; the tiagra in free spool with the clicker on, the skippy got 15 feet off the transom and the marlin came up from under the boat at the skipjack and jumped clearing the water at the same time.

The angler and the crew all freaked out. Capt. Adolfo saw that the marlin had swallowed the bait deep and knew that baring equipment failure this fish was coming to the boat. After 1 hour and 20 minutes fight the marlin choked on the bait and came to the boat weak and beaten. This is by far the largest fish I have ever personally seen and I will be having Grays Taxidermy mounting it. And you will be able to see it inside Masterbaiter's II SportFishing and Tackle Marina Vallarta.

On the same day, another big black marlin was caught by another privately owned yacht. That taped in at a wiping 945lbs. that would have been giant news if it wasn't for the 1270. When it rains it pours and its pouring here in P.V. right now!! Giant tuna are still at both, Corbeteña and El Banco, the big tuna have been here for about 3 weeks now and it just keeps on getting better, bait was easier to catch this past week and the giant count has gone up considerably!

Denis Braid will be fishing with Master Baiter's aboard High Maintenance in September to finish a giant yellow fin tuna vided the started last year that produced a bunch of marlin but no tuna, this year the tuna are so thick we should get some great vided, also Teresa Braid will be shooting for the women world record yellow fin, that record was reserved for Tonya Gabruk, formally of Master Baiter's Sport Fishing until she decided to retire and hook in Florida, good luck Teresa!!
