FISHING REPORT

#80 Weekly Fishing Report

Provided by Master Baiter's Sportfishing & Tackle / August 31, 2003.

After Hurricane Ignacio passed over the harbor of La Paz and part of Cabo San Lucas with winds topping 90 mph this past week, we felt like we were in a privileged paradise, the fishing could not be better, the weather conditions are incredibly nice and the fish are showing up in good numbers and sizes.

However, for those who were complaining that the fishing is all the way out at El Banco (50 miles away), Dorados are starting to show up along with Sails inside the bay, providing great action for lighter tackle. Trying to catch a Sailfish with 15- to 20-lb test is a real challenge that will show you the beauty of the sport, also a great opportunity for the kids to learn how to land their first big one, just outside the Marieta Islands.

Between El Morro and Punta de Mita this week a lot of Yellowfin Tuna running up to 60 Lbs. where caught, right off La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Charter fleet Marla III along with Capt. Danny reported several Mahi-Mahi with some nice size Bulls weighing up to 60 Lbs.

The waters here are so unlike any others, we have the privilege of being in one of the best seasons for giant Yellowfin Tuna along with Black and Blue Marlin. Fisherman from all around the globe are starting to recognize that Puerto Vallarta has bigger fish than Cabo and even Hawaii! The blue waters of Vallarta have been very generous with those that take the long run to El Banco which seems to be the golden spot… even for breaking a World Record soon.

Mr. Ken Sutula, a regular client of Master Baiter’s Sport Fishing and Tackle, flew down all the way from Chicago last week and he was shocked at the results after fishing on El Amo, a 32 Hatteras, landing what he came down for: a 280-lb. Yellowfin Tuna and several hook ups that snapped the line including a nice Blue Marlin. Mr. Sutula was so pleased that he threatened to come back to fish on the 1st and 2nd of September to break his own record along with Dennis Braid. We are sure it’s going to be an interesting week for serious fishermen who don’t give up and settle for small fish!!

Another two boats that will be giving Vallarta a good reputation have been the Sea Treak and Yolaray, these two boats along with Hawaiian Captain Guello of the Sea Treak, and Captain Erick of the Yolaray, make us proud every time they return to the docks …always with some nice Tunas and Marlin flags, so stay tuned for some good news this week because the fish ARE BITING!!
