FISHING REPORT
Back at the docks, fish here, fish
there, fish everywhere!!!
After
an intense week of fishing, the local charters beat
the foreigners. We asked Captain Steve who fished for
4 days straight along with Captains Ricardo and Domingo
on “Sea Chaser”, what makes the difference,
and they all agreed, LIVE BAIT!! “The Dorado are
eating through plastic (lures) but Marlin and Tuna go
crazy when you troll the live skipjacks. The first two
days were kind of slow,” Steve said, “only
4 Marlin released and 3 Tunas, all Tunas over 300 lbs.
If you don’t know how to work those live baits,
you’re gonna get skunked. The good news is, when
we were coming back to spend the night at Punta Mita,
we trolled lures and nailed a school of Dorado that
made the boss happy. It’s always pleasant to end
the day with a nice fish on the table…”
This beautiful species is now giving anglers an excuse
to fish on lighter tackle, but the MONSTERS are still
alive and biting between Corbeteña and El Banco.
“Yolaray”, a 34 Atlantic,
one of the fastest boats in the marina, went out 4 days
in a row to El Banco and came back with MONSTER TUNAS
over 300 lbs.! “Magnifico”, a nice 31 classic
Bertram caught a nice size Sailfish and packed their
freezer with Mahi Mahi. The fishing moved closer. Mr.
Ken Sutula from Chicago said he had a really nice trip
because they had made the right move and switched the
trip to Corbeteña. “The water was clear
and the bait was easy to catch, the Tuna were jumping
all over, all we had to do was to change the strategy
and put the live skippies out, 20 minutes later, baam!!
The reel started to scream TUNA!!” And finally
Mr. Ken Sutula landed his trophy fish, a nice 280-pounder
aboard “Yolaray”. Way to go, man! Congratulations!
People keep asking us if we can put
out the picture of the black marlin that was caught
two weeks ago at El Banco, this is still giving the
world something to say about Vallarta, the 1,270-lb.
Monster and also how we came up with this number if
we never weighed the fish… The answer is simple
and we would like to give out the formula, courtesy
of the I.G.F.A. To get the estimated weight by measuring
the fish, the formula is: LENGTH x GIRTH x GIRTH, divided
by 800. The news went out worldwide and it is this week’s
front page on the L.A. times news so... Wanna be famous
for a day? Come and try the waters off Vallarta and
fish with the pros!
