FISHING REPORT

#82 Weekly Fishing Report

Provided by Master Baiter's Sportfishing & Tackle / September 14, 2003.

Tough week for the locals, not too many boats made it outside the bay this week, due to the severe weather. Wednesday and Thursday was really rough out there, the swells were over 12 feet high!! …which made the fishing that much more interesting. Captain Guello from “Sea Trek” says watching everybody turning back and keeping the course towards Corbeteña was a real challenge. On Wednesday, “Sea Trek” and “El Amo” were probably the only boats that made it all the way out. Aboard the “Sea Trek”, angler Tod Jackson and his wife Angie went out to Corbeteña and fished the rough waters, they had to try everything since they could not find any live bait. Trolling dead mullets and lures gave Mr. Jackson 3 nice Sailfish and a Blue Marlin weighing approx. 300 lbs. We noted that the Sailfish are starting to show up in good numbers, Mr. Jackson’s words were: “no mater how rough or tough it can be, I may even fish on my knees, but I won’t give up any fish that bites!!!” These are the words of a true fisherman that will be fishing the Sailfish tournament aboard “High Maintenance” in November.

We all remember last year’s young champion Carlos Sanchez Roman from Irapuato, Guanajuato, who took 3 awards to become the tournament’s youngest living legend. This year our city will have the privilege of welcoming anglers from all around the world to participate in the 48th Sailfish Tournament, November 20, 21 and 22nd, hosted by Hotel Velas Vallarta Grand Suite Resort.

The cost or registration fee is $9,500 pesos per person before October 31st and $10,000 pesos per person after November 1st. This includes the get together dinner and the award ceremony dinner. For general information call 225-5467 or call Master Baiter’s to rent a boat for the tournament.

Still Corbeteña and El Banco are the spots for the big ones, giant Yellowfin Tuna and Black and Blue Marlin have being caught, “Yolaray” and “Barrabas” came back with monster Tunas last Friday and Saturday. I guess the pictures talk for themselves…

At Master Baiter’s you will find everything you need: rods, reels, lures, bait, nets, teasers, hooks, outriggers, hats, shirts, knives, downriggers, charter boats or anything else you could want.
