The largest marlin ever caught in a tournament
anywhere in the world! |

few weeks ago, the Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta
received a letter addressed to Lic. Cárdenas,
from Miguel Koenig who lived in Vallarta from 1989 to
1996, in which he shared his accomplishment at the Hawaii
Marlin Tournament in July 2003.
In his letter, Miguel Koenig told
his friends that during that tournament, he was lucky
enough to catch the largest Blue Marlin ever caught
in any tournament worldwide! He also included a photo
which we are publishing with the authorization of Sr.
Alberto Sánchez Cárdenas, acting President
of the Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta, A.C.
I had the privilege of reading that
letter and from my point of view, regardless of the
world record it represents, what I find most admirable
is how Miguel Koeing writes -sincerely, passionately
and full of gratitude- that such a catch would not have
been possible without the knowledge and experience he
gained from those who taught him the fine points of
fishing in Puerto Vallarta.
In the letter, Miguel tells one of
his anecdotes through which, he says, he learned that
“preparation” in high-level fishing is everything.
He mentions one occasion when after a three-hour fight,
he lost an animal because the 250-lb. leader broke.
It was an unforgettably sad day, says Miguel.
He also writes how he always had
the support of his Vallarta friends, like Moray Applegate,
Don Nacho Zaragoza, instructor Childres, Cap. Juan Moll,
Chito, Enrique Arreola, Ivan and “el Chicano”,
among many others. One can detect the true gratitude
in his letter, along with his love for a land, an ocean
and its people who gave him love and shared their knowledge
with him.
 Through
his words, anyone can see that even after so many years,
in Miguel Koeing’s mind and heart, Puerto Vallarta
continued to burn like a flame. His dedicated his catch
in Hawaii -which was officially acknowledged as the
largest Marlin ever caught in a tournament anywhere
around the world, realized in honor of the friendship
and fishermen of Vallarta, to the Club de Pesca de Puerto
Vallarta A. C., and all its members.
Congratulations to Miguel Koenig
on his catch. Congratulations to the Club de Pesca de
Puerto Vallarta and its members for the dedication.
And congratulations to Puerto Vallarta for penetrating
and remaining in the mind and heart of a man who, in
his own way, honored it with his achievement when it
happened.

El marlín más grande jamás pescado
durante un torneo en el mundo!
Hace
unas semanas el Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta recibió
una carta dirigida al Lic. Cárdenas, donde el
Sr. Miguel Koenig quien vivió en Vallarta de
1989 a 1996, les comparte su gran hazaña lograda
en el Hawaii Marlin Tournament de Julio del 2003.
En su carta, Miguel Koenig hace del
conocimiento a sus amigos, que durante el torneo de
Hawaii Marlin tuvo el privilegio de capturar al marlín
azul más grande que jamás se haya capturado
durante un torneo en el mundo! En su carta se incluye
una fotografía que publicamos con la autorización
del Sr. Alberto Sánchez Cárdenas actual
presidente del Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta, A.C.
Tuve el honor de leer esta carta
y desde mi punto de vista, independientemente del record
mundial obtenido, lo más admirable es que Miguel
Koeing de una forma sincera, apasionada y llena de agradecimiento,
hace mención que dicha captura en Hawaii no le
hubiera sido posible sin los conocimientos y la experiencia
adquirida a través de sus maestros pescadores
en Puerto Vallarta.
En la carta, conmovedoramente Miguel
Koeing narra una de sus anécdotas a través
de la cual, dice el, aprendió que “la preparación”
en la pesca de alto calibre es todo. En su narración
también hace mención de una ocasión
en la que después de tres horas de pelea, perdió
un animal porque se reventó el líder [de
250libras]. Un día inolvidablemente triste, dice
Miguel.
Cuenta también, como siempre
recibió el apoyo de sus amigos vallarentenses
como Moray Applegate, Don Nacho Zaragoza, el maestro
Childres, el Cap. Juan Moll, Chito, Enrique Arreola,
Ivan y el Chicano, entre muchos otros. En su carta se
puede percibir el verdadero agradecimiento y cariño
por una tierra, un mar y su gente que le brindaron amor
y enseñanza.
A
través de su s palabras, cualquiera se puede
percatar que aun después de muchos años,
en la mente y corazón de Miguel Koeing, Puerto
Vallarta seguía encendida como una flama ardiente.
Su captura en Hawaii que oficialmente es reconocida
como la más grande de marlín lograda durante
algún torneo en el mundo, realizada en honor
a la amistad y a los pescadores de Vallarta, se la ha
dedicado al Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta A. C.,
y a todos sus miembros.
Felicidades a Miguel Boeing por su
captura. Felicidades al Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta
y sus miembros por la dedicatoria. Y felicidades a Puerto
Vallarta por entrar y mantenerse en la mente y el corazón
de un hombre que a su manera, en el momento que el se
generó, con su hazaña la honró.
