 The first hours of the month
started with the closing of the May festival with
a truly spectacular event. During a splendid night
adorned with stars the pianist Raul Di Blasio delighted
locals and visitors with a unique open air concert
on the boardwalk of our city. All comments affirm
that it was simply a marvelous event. Like never
before the ears were delighted and the hearts were
vibrating. In one of his books about the city Carlos
Murguía Fragoso names
Puerto Vallarta "the hidden paradise" and in this
occasion such a special music of a great artist invaded
our paradise. Di Blasio, being in love with this
land composed a beautiful melody about Vallarta,
which will be used in a promotional video whose recording
involves the investment of close to 1 million Pesos
according to the information of the present administration
During this month the heat
started really to increase and we had some "very hot" days,
however we also had some rainfall which helped
to cool down the atmosphere, especially in the
mornings. The marvelous thing is that the surrounding
mountains are starting to turn spectacularly green
and besides being a refreshing gift for our eyesight
this assures new life in the sierra.
Turning to another subject, this past month of January
during the international tourist fair celebrated
in Madrid, Spain, the tourist development of Bandera's
Bay presented itself with the purpose of promoting
this zone among Spanish tourism. The fruits of this
trip begin to be noticed, as the first Boing 747,
replete with travelers, landed on our airport this
month.
On the other hand, on the banks of the Pitillal
river, on the southern intersection with the main
avenue de ingreso, you can begin to observe great
cleaning activity of a huge piece of land announcing
a new construction. It looks like a new mall or shopping
center. Is it really necessary to have another one?
At present we have 5 malls in the area, one of them
consistently monopolizes the largest crowd and it
does not look as if the other malls will attract
more costumers. There is no model or image of the
future construction project on display yet. I only
hope that whatever is built there will be really
striking enough to generate enough business.
 During this month we received what I consider some
sad news: officially it was the end of the Hotel
Camino Real. It was converted to a deluxe all inclusive
hotel operated by AM resorts. Since its start approximately
30 years ago, the Camino Real in Puerto Vallarta
was a synonym f or luxury, exclusiveness, excellent
service and quality. In addition the Camino Real
always represented a space which contributed to the
diffusion of our culture through international events.
According to some comments which we will confirm
soon, the rumor goes that the hotel was sold to a
wholesaler. In case that this is true, independent
of the magnitude of the negotiations and its benefits,
I consider that selling the hotel to a wholesaler
was not very healthy for our destination since I
am for an honest competitiveness of the lodging offer
in this zone. Whatsoever I will promptly confirm
this version.

Las primeras horas del mes
comenzaron con el cierre de las fiestas de mayo,
con un evento verdaderamente espectacular. Al aire
libre en una noche de lujo adornada con estrellas,
en el malecón de nuestra ciudad
el pianista Raúl Di Blasio deleito a locales
y visitantes con un concierto único. Todos los
comentarios confirman que fue sencillamente un evento
maravilloso!. Como nunca los oídos se deleitaron
y los corazones vibraron. En uno de su libros de la
ciudad, Carlos Murguía Fragoso nombra a Puerto
Vallarta como el "paraíso escondido", y en esta
ocasión tal especial la música de un
gran artista invadió nuestro paraíso.
Di Blasio enamorado de esta tierra compuso una hermosa
melodía a Vallarta, misma que será utilizada
en un video promocional, en el cual de acuerdo a la
información de la administración actual
se invertirá cerca de un millón de pesos.
Durante este mes el calor
comenzó a subir de
todo y hemos tenido días "muy calientitos",
sin embargo también han caído algunas
lluvias alcanzando a refrescar el ambiente, especialmente
por las mañanas. Lo maravilloso es que las montañas
que nos rodean comienzan a lucir espectacularmente
verdes, y eso además de ser un refrescante regalo
para la vista, asegura nueva vida en la sierra.
En otro tema, el pasado mes
de enero durante la feria internacional de turismo
alebrada en Madrid España,
con el propósito de promocionar la zona entre
el turismo español, se expuso el desarrollo
turístico de Bahía de Banderas. Los frutos
de este viaje comienzan o observarse, este mes arribo
por piedra vez en nuestro aeropuerto un boing 747 repleto
de viajeros.
Por otro lado, en la rivera
del río el Pitillal,
en el cruce sur con la avenida principal de ingreso,
se ha comenzado a observar movimiento de limpieza de
un gran terrero que anuncia una nueva construcción.
Al parecer será una nueva plaza o centro comercial. ¿Es
realmente necesario que exista uno más?. Actualmente
existen cinco plazas en la zona, de las cuales una
es la acapara consistentemente la mayor afluencia y
no se observa como las otras atraerán más
clientela. Todavía no se muestra una maqueta
o imagen del proyecto a construir. Solo espero que
lo que ahí se edifique sea realmente impresionante
como para generar suficiente tráfico.
Durante este mes también se recibió lo
que considero una noticia triste, y fue que oficialmente
el hotel Camino real dejo de serlo, para convertirse
en un hotel dedujo todo incluido operado por AM Resorts.
Desde un inicio hace aproximadamente treinta años,
Camino Real en Puerto Vallarta fue sinónimo
de lujo, exclusividad, excelente servicio y calidad.
Adicionalmente el Camino Real siempre represento un
espacio donde a través de eventos internacionales,
se contribuyo a la difusión de nuestra cultura.
A través de algunos comentarios que próximamente
confirmaremos, se dice que el hotel fue vendido a una
agencia mayorista. Si esto es verdad, independientemente
de la magnitud de la negociación y sus beneficios,
considero que en pro de la honesta competitividad de
la oferta de hospedaje en la zona, no fue sano para
el destino haberlo vendido a un mayorista. De cualquier
forma pronto confirmaré esta versión.
