4 , 2002 | Obviously, there was no way
this would be a "normal" issue of the Tribune
We have received
so many e-mails from so many different points around the world (many of which
came in by internet via pvmirror.com), all asking for more detailed information
regarding the status of our beloved port ...and pictures! Understandably, everyone
wants to see photos. And photos is what we are offering
our Tribune readers this week. Yes, everyone should acknowledge the devastation
that was wreaked by Hurricane Kenna in less than an hour on Friday, October 25th,
but we also want everyone to see the incredible work, or perhaps we should use
the word "labor", done by all those who came to help in cleaning up
the town. One has to see it to believe it. Last Wednesday,
our Editorial Director, Gerardo Sandoval, was kind enough to lend us our favorite
photographer, Javier Perez, with whom I spent a most pleasant couple of hours,
driving to the places where he had taken photos on the day of the hurricane and
the day after. Now, it is with pride that we show you those original shots - along
with the ones Javier took, from the very same spots, a mere FIVE days later! See
the miracle with your own eyes. As our mayor said, and
as Mexico's President, Vicente Fox, reiterated: "Puerto Vallarta is alive
and well." The world needs to know this. And even though it is not the first
time that it does this, we need to counteract the politically-biased, sensationalistic
coverage Mexico's Televisa network has been feeding the international networks,
saying that our beautiful port had been "destroyed"
We
are alive, we are well, and thank heavens, there has been no loss of life. Our
restaurants are awaiting you all to celebrate Vallarta's 8th Gourmet Festival.
Read all about it here, and enjoy yourselves. We've tried to make this issue as
light and humorous as possible. A positive attitude is of the essence! Allyna
