San Pancho - July 2006

Greetings once again!
As you know, San Pancho is well known for its big waves and gorgeous beach. The waves at the beach in San Pancho are strong fast and left (sometimes right). They can measure from 4 feet to 16 feet!! This is where Surf Magazine comes for some of their famous photos.
The following is a message from our young surfers here in San Pancho:
¨San Pancho has been chosen by the state of Nayarit for the State Surfing Competition to be held July 15th, (arrival of judges). Competition dates are July 16th and 17th, 2006 and will be held at the south point break - Main Beach!!!

In this tournament, great surfers such as; Alonso Hernandez, Jorge Hernandez, Diego Cadena and many more will participate. Don’t miss this great opportunity to visit San Pancho and enjoy this event!!
Local friends and neighbors Alonso Haro, his wife, Diose (Justice of the Peace) and a group of energetic local surfers have been appointed to organize this competition and are reaching out to the community for any type of peso donations needed in order promote the event.
Funds raised will be allocated towards the promotion of the surfing event itself - for housing for the judges coming in from other areas, posters, t-shirts - banners - raffles - prizes - music and the beach and street clean up during and after the event.
 As well and very important is that a part of these funds raised will go towards the sponsorship of the winner from this contest, a Nayaritan, so that they will have the opportunity to travel and compete in the next surfing competition to take place in September south in the Zihuatanejo area.
If you can help whether you are a full time or part time resident of San Pancho and or if you are a business and wish to sponsor your company name at the event - any amount is deeply appreciated!
Since many of you are not here right now we thought that an easy way to make your donation would be to contact your property manager, if possible and if they hold an expense account for you, you could let them know to stop by Dioses office at DIF, across the street from the Ola Rica, or bring your donation to Alonso Haro next to Leos market (north side). Diose will give you or your manager a receipt for the donation.

Elvia & I have written about Nicole Swedlow in our past articles and her ongoing efforts to make San Pancho a better place in which to live (by working with the children here and the library project for examples). The library project is making great progress by the way…
Here is an important message from Nicole dated June 28th, 2006:
¨Hello everyone! I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words and support. Some people have asked for more information about our summer workshops...
The Summer Workshops for children are about providing learning opportunities in new and exciting subjects, real education in English, science, ecology and swimming, and a chance to express or develop creativity through art and music. They are also meant to teach children about volunteerism and working together and all we can accomplish if we choose to.
 Children who participate in the workshops are asked to donate volunteer time during the PLANTA SAN PANCHO event and in the clean up projects that we are planning. Most of the teachers of the workshops are unpaid parents from the community. We have waiting lists for English and swimming classes. We do plan to charge a very small amount... enough that they take the classes seriously but not so much that we exclude the kids with lower resources who are likely those that most need these sorts of opportunities.
The simple fact is that we are still very short of resources to produce the events of the summer. A $50 USD donation supports a child for six weeks of summer classes. If you can sponsor a child for the summer of a lifetime... please do!!!
