The First International Marlin and Tuna Fishing Tournament
Riviera Nayarit Vallarta

By Jesús de Avila – May 2007

During a press conference celebrated at the convention center of the Paradise Village  Resort in Nuevo Vallarta that was framed by an atmosphere of elegance and perfect organization, the Fishing Club of Banderas Bay, the Fishing Delegation of the State of Nayarit, the Visitors and Conventions Bureau of Vallarta, Nayarit and corresponding authorities through their representatives gave an official invitation for the First International Riviera Nayarit Marlin and Tuna Fishing Tournament to be celebrated in our beautiful Banderas Bay on July 13th, 14th and 15th of the present year.

During the intervention of the representatives of the diverse public and private sectors involved it was clearly mentioned, in addition to thanking and acknowledging the sponsors without whose help the event would not be possible, what the organization and celebration of this first great sports event represents for everyone. Besides attracting a huge amount of financial income for the area and its service providers, it will effectively contribute to the promotion and solidification of the Riviera Nayarit and Banderas Bay as an international destination for fishing, culture and adventure. What stood out during the event were the presence, participation and complete support of Mr. Pedro Sort, President of the National Fishing Association and conductor of a television program specializing in reel fishing where the tournament and the whole area will also be promoted.

The format of the fishing competition is by teams that will dispute the honor of receiving spectacular prizes of more than one hundred thousand dollars for the best Marlin, Tuna, Sailfish and Dorado catch. There has never been an international tournament in Mexico that initiated with such a huge amount of prize money. It is predicted that the minimum number of participating teams will be forty which would mean an average of one hundred and sixty fishermen from different parts of the world. In addition the forecast anticipates days of intense emotion, great fun and of course honorable competition for everyone.

It is important to distinguish that the participation of all sectors in order to carry out this tournament is truly full of enthusiasm. In Mexico the international sports fishing market generates the largest economic income within the tourist sector, and one of the objectives of this tournament is to attract the attention of fishermen all around the world, and with it a great part of the economic income of the area.

The Hotel Paradise Village will be the host of the tournament. Headed by its owner and its team of professional executives with supreme first class installations the hotel is more than prepared to provide the already well-known Vallarta friendliness and impeccable service.

The Banderas Bay Fishing Club brings a new international tournament to Banderas Bay that will not only be a healthy and family-oriented tourist and sports activity, but that will also generate hum in the area, more work and new business opportunities for all sectors and providers of tourist services in the Riviera Nayarit.

The date is for the 13th, 14th and 15th of July and nobody... absolutely nobody who loves fishing should miss it. Well, and those who do not love it, should not miss it either.
