San Pancho - June 2007

A rare site to be seen in San Pancho is a good, old fashion garage sale – but lo and behold there was one here on Saturday, May 26th, 2007. Several families were selling all sorts of things that they themselves no longer had use for. It was a fun and festive time as the determined treasure hunters searched eagerly through the piles of merchandise to find just the right, “can-not-live-without” item(s) to add to their own steadily growing bounty of earthly possessions. All sorts of folks, young and old, male & female, gringos and locals alike participated in the event which lasted for about five hours. At the end of it all, the buyers walked happily away carrying their newly acquired belongings – and the sellers had their pockets lined with their hard-earned dinero. Everyone wore smiles – everyone was happy. Side note: Usually in the states when someone holds a garage sales it rains… we did have a few sprinkles here during this garage sale… The garage-sale was a huge success. We are sure there will be many more garage-sales in the future for San Pancho!. Many thanks to all who helped out!!!
Oh-oh…. the old “Safety Professional” in me is kicking up... – Most everyone loves to drink the milk from a coconut and eat its tender meat – but not everyone realizes how deadly this almost nine pound nut can be! It is a fantasy-like dream (for me anyways) to be relaxing in a hammock, lazily sipping a cool beverage with a cool breeze and being shaded by a palm tree while watching the ocean waves. That last sip could be your last… Approximately 150 deaths occur each year from falling coconuts! That’s about ten times as many deaths by shark attacks a year!! Be careful of standing, laying in a hammock – or simple walking under a coconut tree. Warn your tourist friends of the hidden danger. If you have cocos on your property, invite the vendors that sell cocos on the beach to come harvest them twice or three times a year. They’ll be happy to leave you a couple of cocos for you to enjoy for the invite! Don’t let some nut ruin your day… please be aware!!
Until next time.
