Ney González Sánchez, the Governor of the State of Nayarit made the official announcement within the frame of Acapulco’s Tianguis Turístico (Annual Tourism Trade Show).

Backed by the beaches of the Mexican Pacific, some of them still untouched, Nayarit’s State Government officially launched what is to be called from now on Riviera Nayarit, during the works of the Tianguis Turístico.

This new destination will be a 100-mile touristic corridor comprising the municipalities of Bahía de Banderas, Compostela and San Blas, encompassing various touristic sites and spectacular natural scenery to be combined with the planned development of hotel zones geared towards premium domestic and international tourists. Riviera Nayarit’s launching is based on the development of responsible, socially and environmentally sustainable tourism.

Touristic areas such as Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerias, Flamingos, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Punta de Mita, Islas Marietas, San Francisco, Sayulita, Lo de Marcos, Destiladeras, Rincón de Guayabitos and San Blas, among others, offer the visitor with the wide array of activities of an integral tourist destination: ecotourism, cultural and adventure tourism, golf, whale watching, fishing, turtle release camps, gastronomy, canopy, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins and much more.

An important project already underway is Litibú, this Integrally Planned Center (CIP) from the Tourism Development Fund (FONATUR), is a top level development that will be offering on the short term, among other attractions, boutique hotels, its own marina, heliport, hospitals, shopping malls, golf clubs. The golf course, designed by Grez Norman, is on its final stages of construction and is expected to open by the end of this Summer. The first hotel is already under construction and six more are about to break ground, all of them belonging to international hotel chains.

Presently, Riviera Nayarit has 12,840 hotel rooms, over 60% of them belong to four-star to Grand Tourism categories. A 491 million USD investment is estimated in the state during 2007, generating jobs and sustainable touristic development for Nayarit.

A symbol of exclusivity and splendor, Riviera Nayarit intends to place itself strategically into the domestic and international tourism markets through a solid development plan beginning with the official launching of a destination that will become a most relevant project for the state and the country as a whole during the coming years.
