San Pancho Article – Nov 2007
By: Elvia & Geno Lamphiear – November 2007

Everyone here in San Pancho is busy getting ready for the upcoming high season.  We are just about at the end of our rainy season now.  Skies are blue but we still have high humidity with wide temperature ranges and even a sprinkle of rain here & there.  We all look forward to our friends - and new friends - arriving here in San Pancho!

Building keeps going on with the real estate business being very active - and along with that comes a feeling of prosperity that spreads in all levels of the community (which is good for everyone)!

A new restaurant on the main street of San Pancho just sanpanchoopened up this last week (under the big palapa where the old surf shop used to be).  It is called “Casa de Chile Relleno”!  We have not tried this new one out YET but several folks have stated they will return… so we guess that they liked it - Geno & I will definitely visit there soon!  “Casa Chile Relleno”is open six nights a week (closed on Tuesdays) and has live music as well from time to time.

The 2007 Turtle season is proving to be best year in the eighteen years of the Grupo Ecológico de la Costa Verde!  When you visit San Pancho come and visit the nursery and meet Frank. Currently the group is offering the following activities;

2007 Turtle Slide Show Presentation by Grupo Ecológico de la Costa Verde, A.C.:
This presentation is suited for all ages and addresses the life cycle and future of today’s Marine Turtles.  This event is made possible by Gallo’s Pizza Restaurant in San Francisco (San Pancho).  Time: 7 pm on Thursdays - Location: Gallo’s Pizza Restaurant (located on the main street of San Pancho - across from the soccer field).

2007 Guided Tour Of Our Marine Nursery:
This tour is suitable for all ages.  When available, visitors can view the process of getting hatchlings ready for their journey to the sea.  Time: 6 to 9 pm every evening (except Thursdays).  Location: North end of Calle America Latina in San Pancho.

Releasing Hatchlings and Viewing Nesting Turtles:
This guided beach walk is suited for ages seven and older.  When available, we will release hatchlings to the sea and view adult turtles nesting.  Time: 9 pm on Thursdays after the 7 pm slide show at Gallo’s Pizza Restaurant.

All of these activities are free of charge.  If you would like to help support this group in their amazing efforts to save the turtles, you may purchase T-shirts with the groups logo at Gallo’s Pizza Restaurant or at the Oasis Gift Shop (also on the main street of San Pancho).  Donations, of course, are gratefully accepted as well.

For more information on the above activities – or how you can help, please call Frank Smith at: 01 (311) 258-4100 - or email at <grupo-eco@project-tortuga.org>.

Gallo’s Pizza (A Place With Heart)

sanpanchoManuel Landa (better known as Gallo) opened this unique place five years ago (thank you Gallo)!  The crispy thin pizzas (European style) are the best in the area!!  But pizzas are not the only cusine you can enjoy here.  The filet minon is excellent, the shrimp is delicious, as are the salads and chicken and fish entrees. While you are there try their homemade desserts - you will be wanting more!  This rustic, georgeous place is built with all natural materials and surrounded by the aroma of regional and exotic plants… the garden setting is very relaxing.

Gallo’s Pizza is a great place for a romantic dinner – or perhaps you are here with your family and/or friends.  Come to Gallo’s!”  You will love it. Gallo personally goes from table to table being the great host that he is!  Chances are that you will be treated to hearing Gallo play one of his many guitars or the flute as only he can.  He is quite the musician!

sanpancho Gallo is open six nights a week (closed on Tuesdays).  Entertainment is featured starting at 7 pm on the following evenings;

Wednesdays – “Al & Zoe”
Thursdays - Turtle Slide Show Presentation by Grupo Ecológico de la Costa Verde, A.C.
Fridays – “Shoe & Fabbie” (with Geno sitting in from time to time)
Saturdays – “Son Como Son”
Sundays – “The Blonde Gypsies”

Until next time,

Elvia & Geno
