The Flavors of Mexico - A cooking class with
Mexican History where love is the main ingredient

With the name “The Flavors of Mexico”, Florelisa Hernandez materializes a new project, a cultural venture that blends Gastronomy, History, Culture and Art, it was a nice surprise to experience what she describes as “a series that has the ambitious goal of taking bits of Mexico to your palate, through our sessions you will learn more about the wonderful place you choose to spend your retirement days, and hopefully you will be encouraged to learn and live more of Mexico, to experience Mexico through your taste buds!”
The series refers to a bi/monthly cooking class; each session covers a different state of the Mexican Republic.
She shares information about the culture, art, traditions and the touristic offer of the selected state; she also makes a demonstration of the gastronomy of the state. She shares the recipes of traditional dishes and at the end participants are invited to taste the food she prepared beforehand.
The series started two months ago, and so far she has presented:
• Oaxaca
Menu: Black Mole, White Rice, Ate con Queso and Mezcal tasting
• Yucatan
Menu: Pollo Pibil, Cactus Salad, Fried Plantains with cream
• Queretaro
Menu: Enchiladas Queretanas, Ranchero Beans, and Caramel Fudge.
Florelisa is a local resident of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, an important member of Frascati and La Cruz Bistro Grill restaurants of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. She studied at Escuela de Gastronomia Mexicana in Mexico City, she is also the director of Crearte Nayarit www.artenayarit.com, a Cultural Center that offers art, painting, drawing and arts and crafts classes, as well as Spanish and English for students of all ages.
With a solid background in culture and arts, as well as experience in high positions in the cultural sector of Mexican government, Florelisa is very excited about this new project, her face fills with joy as she talks about it” the materialization of this project is another dream come true, I have always dreamt of sharing the richness of my country with others, to help them build a better understanding of what Mexicans are, I am convinced that history holds the key to understand the present, and at the end I am in love with Mexico, my roots, my origins, the land and space of my ancestors,
If I had a chance to be born again, I am sure I would be Mexican, we are such a rich culture, interesting and intriguing, yes, there are many things that need to change, It is my feeling that we could start by having faith on us, later we could try to see ourselves through foreign eyes and then we would realize our greatness, richness and vastness displayed in every chapter of our history, the moment we do that, Mexico’s fate will starting turning around...”
“I am thankful for doing this, and sharing it with people and making a difference in their perception, through the food and the lectures they have a chance to see us in depth, I like that.”
