RIVIERA NAYARIT
San Blas promises a "big fish" tournament
• The International Fishing Tournament of San Blas at Riviera Nayarit celebrates its 50th anniversary, offering millions of pesos in prizes.
• Riviera Nayarit is deemed by experts as one of the best destinations to practice sport fishing.
Riviera Nayarit opens its marlin and swordfish season with one of the most appealing attractions for sport fishing lovers. The International Fishing Tournament of San Blas, organized by Nayarit's Sport Fishing Club turns 50 this year, and celebrates by offering millions of pesos in prizes, including six cars, outboard boat motors, fishing gear and more.
For third consecutive year, this traditional and notorious sport fishing tournament will take place at Fonatur's Nautical School on June 9 - 13, at the port of San Blas. This privileged location boasts an enormous diversity of wildlife that not only makes it one of the favorite spots to do sport fishing, but has earned its name as the best place to do bird watching in Latin America.
This competitive tournament offers over $1,450,000 pesos in prizes, and will welcome 100 participants, which translates into a 50% increase over last year, thanks to a marketing campaign at international events that took place earlier this year, like the Mexico Cup Regatta and the Boat Show Latin America.
This joint work headed by the State Governor Ney González Sánchez, the Hotel and Motel Association of San Blas and the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Riviera Nayarit has been of utmost importance for organizations like Tepic's Fishing Club, which contribute to organize major events like this one and to promote our destination.
Experts consider Riviera Nayarit as one of the best destinations in the world to do sport fishing, since big game can be found throughout the year: wahoo, sailfish, dolphin-fish, tuna, three different species of marlin, sawfish and snapper guarantee a great fishing experience all year-long.
Furthermore, Riviera Nayarit offers world-class marinas, people who know how to work with fiberglass, specialized technical personnel to fix all the gadgets found on a ship, delectable restaurants, luxurious hotels and the required infrastructure.
One sample of these specialized services is precisely the Nautical School, which will host the tournament. Developed by Fonatur with an investment of $199 million pesos, it has 20 docks on its floating wharf. Warehouses, a crane, a ramp, 2.47 acres of dry dock, and a fuel station at the dock are only some of the services it offers.

ABOUT SAN BLAS
The port of San Blas is a romantic Mexican town that evokes old times, not only because of the important role it played in Mexico's history, but also form an architectural standpoint that reminds us of Mexico's glory during Colonial times and during the first years as an independent country.
Mere references to this place inspired the American poet Henry Wadworth Longfellow, who despite the fact that he never visited San Blas, wrote nostalgic verses about it: "Oh San Blas' bells that toll/you recall the past in vain! The past listens not to your prayer/leaving behind the nightly shadows / the world turns into the light:/dawn is everywhere".
This rich history confers a special ambiance to this port that has a wide biodiversity and is one of the most beautiful in this country, offering an opportunity to enjoy nature in a unique, preserved environment.
San Blas is also a tourist attraction because of its beautiful beaches, which include Playa Las Islitas, Playa El Borrego, Matanchén, Los Cocos, and Playa del Rey, and also because of its gastronomy, which was deeply influenced by Asia and Europe, and because of a number of small and comfortable high-quality hotels.
