RIVIERA NAYARIT
The best sailors in the world train in Riviera Nayarit
The Mexican sailor Tania Elias Calles invited the best competitors in the Laser Radial class to
enjoy a high-endurance sports clinic in Riviera Nayarit
The Mexican sailor Tania Elias Calles continues to prepare in Riviera Nayarit for the London Olympic Games 2012. To produce better results, she invited competitors from Spain, Switzerland, Italy and Britain to conduct a high-endurance sports clinic in the destination known as Mexico's Pacific Treasure.
During their visit, Tania's guests were greatly surprised by the climate and by the world-class nautical infrastructure available in the region, which are conducive to the practice of this high performance sport. They also enjoyed the weather, as it allowed them to practice even during a season that is not apt for training in most part of Europe, Canada, and the United States.
The Spanish competitor Fatima Reyes earned the bronze medal in the Laser Radial class at the France World Cup 2010, and has emerged as one of the favorites to represent Spain in London 2012. Nathalie Brugger from Switzerland ranked first in her country and took the 5th place in Beijing 2008, while the British competitor Andrea Brewster was the recipient of the bronze medal at the World Cup 2008 and the Italian competitor Francesca Clapcich, who is part of the Aeronautica Militare team and number one in her country. They were all part of the elite group
that trained in Riviera Nayarit on February 2 - 13.
Tania Elias Calles and this select group of competitors worked under the supervision of Larissa Nevierov, Italy's national trainer and competitor at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Nevierov said this was a fruitful trip due to the quality that Riviera Nayarit offers to the practice of this sport.
"We found really good conditions to practice, with good gusts of wind, waves and challenges to overcome. Making the long trip to Riviera Nayarit proved to be beneficial, as it allowed us to train in a season that usually prevents us practicing in Europe", said the Italian coach.
Tania Elias Calles was happy because for years she had tried to convince European comp etitors to
visit Mexico to train, but it was not until now that she had the opportunity to practice with this level of competition in her own country.
"The truth is that if I had the opportunity to train at the level we did these days more often, my competitive level would be much better. I've always been the one who travels and makes the investment to be able to practice in their countries, but this time they were the ones who came here and I'm happy because they found the right conditions to train", she said.
Tania performed an intensive training program that included work in the gym in the mornings and then practice to improve her speed and skill in the waters of Banderas Bay. She set sail from Marina Riviera Nayarit, located in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
The visiting competitors also appreciated the friendliness and warmth of the people of Nayarit, and said they were not only excited about the training but that they also fell in love with the natural scenery around them.
Experts regard Riviera Nayarit one of the best destinations to sail and to practice a number of water sports, as they can be enjoyed all year round. Furthermore, the destination has modern marinas, technicians who can work with fiberglass and fix all the devices and technological gadgets in a boat, plus extraordinary touristic services.
THEY SAID:

"We were staying right next to the boats, and we had wind to navigate every single day, as well as heat, which we simply don't have in Spain. The facilities are close by and offer really high quality"
Fatima Reyes- Spain

"We've truly enjoyed our trip; we had the opportunity to practice in a place with good wind, and which is also really fun. We even had the chance to surf on our day off!"
Andrea Brewster Great - Britain

"People here have really been great with us, and we've had a beautiful place to train both at the gym and at the marina. What's best is that it's not cold and we've been told that you can sail all
year long."
Francesca Clapcich - Italy

"Both the marina and the services offered were excellent. Besides our training, we were able to see whales leaping out of the water, and also a turtle that swam under our boat."
Nathalie Brugger - Switzerland
