Journey to the other side of the bridge - People and places from this part
of the bay. | by SS - February
23, 2003. | Countless
hours have been spent discussing if this part of the bay belongs to Puerto Vallarta
or not, the truth is that we share one of the most spectacular places of the World
and in terms of tourism we are one single area that has everything to offer to
the most demanding visitor.
Let's just say that this side
of the river is the young bride of Puerto Vallarta, it is a beautiful child that
has rapidly grown into an exquisite and promising beauty. Like
every other couple, both have a rich history, Puerto Vallarta´s history
is well known, thanks to the wonderful literature published in the last few years.
Nayarit´s history is ancient as well, the state
is one of the most diverse and rich regions of Mexico and its beaches are unparalleled
in magnificence and beauty. Nayarit offers vast geographic
contrasts, cold weather in la Sierra, mild in Tepic the capital, and warm and
humid in the coast, including a deep jungle, a couple of volcanoes, lagoons and
beaches. The inhabitants of the Sierra Madre Occidental are the indigenous groups
Cora and Huichol; they keep their social, religious and cultural traditions. Even
if you are not interested in History at all, when you visit the towns and beaches
you will feel the spirit of the places, and if you open yourself to their magic
they will tell you their stories, like the ones of the pirate ships hiding from
their prosecutors in the countless coves, or the ones of the ancestors giving
their offers to the Gods in the reefs and caves. This
side has it all in its own magical way, and lots of people like many others and
myself have made it their home. We have seen many things changing around here,
like the modern four lane highway with few stops lights included, who could have
imagined? Driving
from Puerto Vallarta has been always a very amusing trip, seeing all the new things
that spruce up like plants in a few days time, new housing developments, schools,
gas stations, golf clubs, hotels, shops.
The towns of
this side offer a more quiet and relaxed lifestyle; maybe this is the reason why
their marriage works out so well. As a bay area resident
Puerto Vallarta is the place to get in touch with the World, many good things
are happening on a daily basis, the openings of bookstores, movie theaters, restaurants,
bars, galleries and shopping in general, on the other hand this side offers relaxation,
quiet life and a number of astonishing natural spots. Let's
start a trip of discovery and wonders, let's meet all the interesting people that
found here their natural home, let's get to know them and listen to their stories. SS An
