News Bulletin - A special Day for Charity Works
By Puerto Vallarta Blue Agave Golf Classic - Leer en Español
The 25th of April was a very special day for the needy children of Puerto Vallarta. In a touching meeting headed by K.C. Crandall, Co-Director of the Puerto Vallarta Blue Agave Golf Classic, it was possible to give out to each of the benefited organizations the checks which had been offered to them.
You might remember that it was announced in the press conferences that took place on grounds of the realization of this first tournament of the Champions Tour of the PGA in Puerto Vallarta, that seven charity organizations would be selected which are dedicated to aiding helpless children of the city.
Knowing beforehand that there are never enough resources to support all those that need help, it was necessary to be especially careful during this selection process.
Thus the organizations Make to wish, Becas (Scholarships) Vallarta, Children of the Dump, Boys Scouts, Children’s Shelter Santa Esperanza, I. F. C. (International Friendship Club), and Toys for Tots received the information that part of the income obtained from admissions and sponsorships in this first Blue Agave Classic would be given to them during a special ceremony.
And the day arrived! In the Club House of the Marine golf course, one of the golf courses that together with the Vista Vallarta Golf Club (seat of our Puerto Vallarta Blue Agave Classic Golf tournament) belongs to Corp Club, members of all the media of the city were summoned witnesses of honor to the donation award ceremony with the attendance of K.C. Crandall, General Manager of both golf courses, David Quiroz, Pro-Director of the Vista Vallarta Golf Club, Silvia Gonzalez Arias, Public Relations Director of the Tournament, Jerry Lafferty, Coordinator of Charity Organizations, Miguel Gonzalez, Director of the Fideocomiso (Office for Tourist Promotion) of Puerto Vallarta and representatives of each one of the organizations.
"It is a great honor for us to be able to give these checks to all those reunited here", commented K.C. Crandall who headed the event. "This way professional golf attains one of its goals which is to give something to those that don’t have anything. The PGA and its different tours, like the Nationwide and, in our case, the Champions Tour, have already donated more than one billion dollars to different charity groups and organizations in the world".
Carlos Fregoso (Scholarships Vallarta) spoke for the seven selected groups in representation of all those organizations that benefited from this check. He thanked the authorities of the tournament, the board of directors of the PGA’s Champions Tour and above all the public and the sponsor companies that made this donation possible. Carlos Fregoso, deeply moved, made the comment "We want to express ours deepest gratitude for this beautiful gestur". The effort that we see reflected today in these seven charity organizations will be multiplied in the years to come, depending on the success that this tournament will continue to acquire, that is to say we would like more organizations to benefit from this contribution. Our children receive these resources with an open heart and they would like us to tell you that as far as they are concerned they include all of you in their prayers”.
On the same lines we were informed by the Fideocomiso (office of tourist promotion), headed by Miguel Gonzalez, that his organization will continue to be supportive of all the projects that have to do with golf tourism in the city. This tournament has showered Puerto Vallarta with a great economic benefit, and we would like this to continue the following years. However this is team work, and we will continue to support these projects just as we have done up to now. Miguel Gonzalez added: “We are recognized as the golf destination par excellence and we have to keep it that way."
Silvia Gonzalez Arias, on the other hand, acknowledged the great support offered by the local media in the diffusion of this important tournament. "I thank you for the enthusiasm and the diffusion you have given us. We not only achieved our goal for this event, but were also able to show how beautiful this port is. We succeeded in captivating/fascinating the players and our guests with the beauty of our destination. All of them left with the promise to come back. Let me make clear that this event has not only provided an economic benefit for Puerto Vallarta during its development, attracting a great amount of spectators, but we know from a good source that several of the players who participated in the tournament have already invested and purchased some luxury apartments in Vallarta. We are proud that our tournament took place and that it was carried out with great success".
David Quiroz said during another moment of the conference: "This is the way how the PGA and the Corp Club, the company that owns Vista Vallarta, keep their promises. The first Blue Agave Golf Classic has been a success in terms of the sports aspect. In addition the diffusion that the event achieved on television in the United States, Canada and 145 more countries will benefit Puerto Vallarta within a short and medium term".
"Even though a lot has been accomplished with this first event, for the 2007 edition there will be more ambitious goals, which can only be reached through a combined effort of all media and above all of all the inhabitants of Puerto Vallarta", ended the Director of Development, who was one of the pillars of the first tournament of the Champions Tour in Puerto Vallarta.
