| “TURKEY TROT” GOLF
EVENT SET FOR THANKSGIVING. |
Un Mañana Brillante, an organization
of Americans and Canadians supporting a new school in
Puerto Vallarta – Colegio Mexico Americano –
announced plans for a major golf event on Thanksgiving
Day at El Tigre Country Club in Nuevo Vallarta.
“The Turkey Trot” will
commence at 9 am. (Players will need to sign up at least
24 hours in advance and be at the club by 8:30 am) The
format will be a scramble so that less- as well as more-experienced
players can join in the fun. With this format, everyone
can have the expectation of being on a winning team.
The El Tigre Golf Course is known
as one of the most beautiful and challenging in the
Bay area. Playing from the pro tees will be especially
interesting and exciting for players who normally play
only from the silver or blue tees. Women will be especially
welcome in this event because they will still drive
from the red tees.
Foursomes will be put together randomly
based on each player’s previously determined handicap.
This team effort provides a great opportunity for people
to meet and develop friendships out of their normal
activities.
There will be individual prizes for
members of the first, second and third place teams,
longest drive, and closest to the pin.
The price of entry for the Shoot-out
will be $90 usd, considerably less than the normal price
for playing the course.
Later in the afternoon, a full Thanksgiving
dinner that will be served at a companion event at the
club for $40 usd. Playing in the golf event is not a
prerequisite. Families are especially invited to come.
It will be a time for giving and thanksgiving with room
for 125 participants for dinner indoors or outdoors
overlooking the 18 green.
Everardo Camacho, a nationally known
professional singer, will provide live music. There
will be a raffle, a silent auction as well as a live
auction for donated merchandise.
Major items in the live auction include
a bejeweled bracelet from “Nomination” in
the Westin Regina, a Gucci watch, a sculpture from Plurimas
Gallery and a painting from one of Puerto Vallarta’s
leading artists, Federico Leon de la Vega. The painting
is the one commissioned for the event poster.
The 4 pm Thanksgiving dinner and
entertainment is open to all, North Americans and Mexicans.
Information and tickets can be purchased from the club
or by calling (01-329) 295-5248.
Both of these events are geared to
raising capital for the scholarship fund and building
fund of the school. Colegio Mexico Americano is a recently
built primary school that reaches out to disadvantaged
families to provide an education in both Spanish and
English and at the same time adds lessons in character-building
to the regular curriculum. It is located in Puerto Vallarta,
several blocks behind the bullfighting ring.
