LETTERS TO EDITOR

September 28, 2003

Dear Jamie,

I just read your article. I really enjoyed it and articles like this are why I read your publication. I've only visited PV three times. I would like to spend much more time there, but I have children in high school and then college. If I were to spend more time there, I would like to take Spanish classes. But my biggest comment is on the pothole subject.

When we visit, we notice that everything has not become "litigation proof." We enjoyed the freedom and responsibility associated with potholes, stair wells leading down-nearly in the middle of a side walk, food packaging being reasonable, buses (I've found the buses to be efficient and a source of cheap entertainment), etc. We've become so cultured by lawyers in these United States that a trip to Puerto Vallarta is refreshing in many ways. Besides the natural beauty, we enjoy the responsibility placed on the individual to step aside from a pothole or a stairwell. We find it refreshing.

I really enjoyed your article. It hit home, making me think, "the way things should be."

Dear Editor,

The City's PR department is trying awfully hard to convince us of their concern for PV's image. Various agencies have trained tourist police in first aid/CPR and banned billboards - now they say they'll rid downtown of heavy trucks. But buses, beer/cola trucks, etc., STILL pollute the air - tour buses STILL come through town instead of the tunnel, and except around the Plaza, overhead wires STILL obstruct the view, and large ugly signs STILL clutter the sidewalks.

Recently a spokesman from the Regulations Commission said "this is a destination that depends on tourism and it's image should remain that of a 100% Mexican town." Why isn't anyone listening to this man??!! It's painfully obvious that the authorities weren't prepared for the rapid growth PV has enjoyed, but they seem to be slowly waking up.

If tourists this year are going to be favorable impressed, the City needs to ACT NOW. Hire enough people to enforce the laws i.e. traffic, signage, taxes, building codes, and laws concerning the beaches and rivers. Everyone wants tourism to flourish, but only City Hall can make it happen. STOP TALKING - do what we've all been reading about - TAKE ACTION. Reduce the Rhetoric.

Concerned

Dear Editor,

Can you tell me if there are any trailer parks in Bucerias or any in the northern small towns of PV and if there are any trailers there for rent. I am planning to come down for 5 month. Any other suggestions on accommodations in the small towns would be appreciated. Thanks,

Rick Thomas

Dear Rick,
Yes, there are a number of trailer parks around Puerto Vallarta. We’ll have to check into the subject a little more to find out if they rent them or not, and we will get back to you.
The Ed.
