Dear Editor, We
have just returned to PV after a 6 month absence, and are having a hard time finding
copies of the Tribune weekly paper. Our usual places are either gone or still
closed, due to Kenna. Can you tell us where we can find copies? We
really appreciated your online paper (www.pvmirror.com) and the great job you
did keeping us up-to-date on the damage and repair reports. The photo galleries
were fantastic and we were able to print them and share them with friends. Keep
up the good work! Paul and Serdena Hutchings Dear
Paul and Serdena, Thank you for all the compliments. You
should be able to find the Vallarta Tribune in the lobbies of the hotels that
are open, in the better restaurants around town and the art galleries. You can
also drop by the offices of the Tribune at 430 Basilio Badillo, but only during
the first couple of days of the week. The Ed.
Hello, Would
you have the name and phone number or email address of a contact person (preferably
English speaking...my Spanish is only so-so!) for the new animal shelter that
is being proposed? Thank you. Vicky Mason Dear
Vicky, The only phone numbers we have are for the SOS Animal group and they
are 293-2018, 293-0108 and 224-3978. Good luck, The Ed.
Hello
Jamie, My wife Pat and I will be in PV for the Christmas
holiday. In the spirit of service, we'd like to get connected with an orphanage
in PV and make a difference in the Christmas the children experience this year.
We're thinking of shopping here in the state beforehand. Can
you help get us introduced to a worthy and needy orphanage? Neither of us speak
much Spanish, so it would be helpful is someone there could speak a bit of English
-- at least enough so that our intent could be communicated and their needs could
be understood. Any help would be greatly appreciated. With
best regards, Bill
Dear
Editor, My wife is in Kirkland, Washington. I am in Chattanooga,
Tennessee, on business, but our hearts and souls are in Puerto Vallarta. We
both very much enjoy the information and perspective in the PVMirror.com. It keeps
us both connected to where we really want to be. Thanks
for all your efforts. We appreciate them. We will be in PV in January and again
in April. We really wish we could be there from January through April. Perhaps
one day. Thank you very much! Michael
and Jennifer Selover
Dear Editor, My
family is planning a trip to PV in January. I've read about the Dengue fever in
your area and am a little concerned. We have 2 young daughters, age 3 and 5, and
would like to know if it is safe for them to travel to PV at this time. Thank
you for any information you can provide. Sincerely, Penny
Warner Houston, Texas Dear Penny, Puerto Vallarta
is safe for your daughters, and your entire family. Firstly, the outbreak we experienced
in November did not affect the tourists in town, secondly, with the cooler nights
that set in a couple of weeks ago, we have been told that the danger has abated
even in the remote areas where the major occurrences of the disease were reported. Come
on down and have a great time! The Ed.
Dear
Editor, This is the final report of the results of our
San Blas fundraiser on Nov 23rd. Terra and Mare Construction
Co. donated a large truck for the day and we easily filled it with our donations.
I went up with the truck this past Monday and I was very impressed with the distribution
system the Lions' Club of San Blas had set up. The volunteers who were working
organizing their "store" applauded us when we arrived. One woman was
moved to tears as she observed the goods being unloaded. So, many thanks to all
who made such high quality donations; they will be well used. The
total cash we collected was $52,670 pesos. The cash donations continued coming
in last week; we organizers were overwhelmed by the huge response in Vallarta. After
meeting with the Lions' Club representatives, we have decided to purchase food
bags with the money. For about 110 pesos we can purchase (from a company in Guadalajara)
12 food items, which will feed a family of four for a week. The Lions' Club had
a food distribution the day we were there; and, again, we were very impressed
with their organization. All of their members appear to work hard to ensure that
the neediest people in the community get help. If you
know of anyone who wants to donate more cash or goods, we have no qualms about
recommending the Lions' Club; our local Lions' Club governor is Miguel Angel Curiel. On
behalf of Lynda, Rene and Susan, we want to thank all of you for your support.
We need to give special thanks to:--Conrad and Hank at Chile's for the use of
their beautiful facility; --Terra & Mare for the use of their truck; --the
fabulous ticket sellers; --the incredible workers, especially Lulu, Molly, Harry,
Margarita, Greg, Rocio, Gabriela, Mario, and many others (MANY THANKS!) Happy
holidays to each of you! Pat DeCoursey
Hi
Anna, Just to inform you that you have printed incorrect
info on your "She Said
" page. You mention the hotel "Moranda"
(which was actually called the "Miranda"), saying that it is still standing
next to the Sheraton, 3 years later as an unused building. Incorrect. This hotel
has been operating for a couple of years as the Blue Bay Getaway (now Sun Getaway)
and is a very popular hotel. However, there is an empty
building block next to the Getaway which has never opened. Hopefully, this hotel
will soon be bought and will start to operate. I hope that you find this information
helpful and inform readers of the correct situation. Kind
regards, Mark I stand corrected. Thank you, Mark. Anna
Dear Editor, 1)
Inquiring minds want to know, how did the Puerto Vallarta Yacht Club wind up in
the state of Nayarit, at Paradise Village? 2) As the rumor
goes, the owner of a certain noisy Olas Altas restaurant/bar is responsible for
poisoning the dogs that frequent the area. A nearby neighbor listened to the dogs
howl all night in agony. The next morning their dead bodies were on the beach.
These homeless dogs were cared for by local residents and tourists. Can't the
city find a more humane way to control the stray dog population? Concerned
Residents in the Zona Romantica Dear Residents, 1)
Very good question. We have no answer. 2) As you yourself state your letter,
it is that inhumane restaurant owner who is purportedly responsible, not the city.
If there are any eyewitnesses to the act, they should report the event to the
city's Ecology Department. The Ed.
Dear
Editor, This is a note of appreciation and thanks to the
doctors and staff at San Javier Hospital in Puerto Vallarta. My
husband was admitted on November 7th as an emergency. Within hours, he was in
surgery, a surgery which I believe saved his life. To doctors Gerardo Robles,
Alejandro Riod, Manuel Munguia, Armando Joya, Pablo Sanchez, and nurse Cecilia
Tello -and any others who were in the operating room- I say thank you and God
bless you all! To the doctors at the Mayan Palace, Dr.
Luna, Dr. Pedro, Dr. Meza, I say thank you for your care. We
left Mexico on Dec. 6th and my husband and I feel that this will really be a holiday
season to enjoy. And my children and grandchildren also say, "Thank you,
doctors for saving our father and grandfather!" May
I also commend the staff at the Mayan Palace, Nuevo Vallarta - to the reservations,
reception, concierge, I say thank you! Without all their help, I would not have
been able to stay near the hospital. They made many changes in reservations to
make this possible. My husband is well and in the best
of health, something he has not had in a long time. I hope that this letter expresses
more than I can possibly put in writing. God bless you doctors, and may you continue
always to be what my husband and I consider skilled and brilliant surgeons. Also,
I don't want to forget the nurses and administration office. They were all so
wonderful. We will always remember all of you. God bless you all and a very happy
holiday to all of you and your families. Forever grateful, John
& Helene McGowan Queens, N.Y.
Hello. I
have a frustration to put forward. Can you or someone
PLEASE tell me how this NEW bus system into downtown works? I totally understand
the need for LESS buses in the center of town. The noise and the cat and mouse
chases are unbearable. I understand that there are 12
buses going in and out. My question is this: WHY DO I HAVE TO STOP EACH "CENTRO"
BUS TO ASK WHICH ONE GOES BEYOND PARQUE HIDALGO??!! I
actually STOP each "Centro" bus to ask and they all tell me the same
thing, "Parque Hidalgo" and that's when I scream out, "Well why
don't you put a sign that says so!!!" Is there an
answer out there??? A system??? Which bus goes all the way into town? I take the
bus in from Christine's Disco. Is there a bus that goes in from there? Dying
for my van to get fixed! Sylvie Archives
