LETTERS TO EDITOR

December 22, 2002

Dear Editor,

Information for foreign tourists - Local bus transportation

Not all buses pass through the center of Puerto Vallarta. If your bus stops at Parque Hidalgo or Parque Lazaro Càrdenas, to the north and south of the center of the city respectively, your bus ticket will serve to board another bus on the other side of the park to go into the center of the city.

You do not have to pay again. This service applies to all bus companies.

The bus stops in the center of the city are - when travelling north-south along Morelos: 1. Jesùs Langarica (DIF, south side of Parque Hidalgo), 2. Abasolo (20 de noviembre school) and 3. Libertad (City Hall).

When travelling south-north along Juàrez: 1. Libertad and Matamoros (El Campeòn shoe store), 2. Mina ("Telas Parisina") and 3. 31 de octubre (Woolworth)

This bus service is an agreement between the bus companies and the city government to help alleviate traffic in the center of the city during reconstruction and the busy Christmas period.

If the bus companies do not honor your bus pass, please report it to the authorities.

Ron Walker

Hi,

We arrived back in Vallarta on December 7th for our annual stay and were amazed at the progress that has been made repairing the damage from Kenna.

One of the problems we had was finding a copy of the Tribune. We used to pick it up weekly in the lobby of the Rosita Hotel. We finally found a copy of the 9-15 issue today, the 15th, behind the counter of a book store. So, our first question is: Where can we find the Tribune, now that so many of the places we previously found it are closed?

In reading through the issue, we noticed a couple of errors. The first is on page 3 in the section - Welcome to Vallarta! "...none of the hurricanes spawned in the Pacific have entered the bay since the beginning of regional record keeping." Kenna has changed all that.

We enjoy your paper very much while we are here and pvmirror.com online when we are at our other home in Morro Bay, CA. The picture coverage of Kenna was outstanding.

The other error was under Previously Reviewed Restaurants - Pipis. We walked down to Pipis this morning to enjoy their great Sunday Brunch only to find that it was discontinued a couple of months ago and there are no plans to resume it. It had become a Sunday tradition with us and we will very much miss it.

One thing that you could do would be an article on Sunday Brunches around the bay.

Paul and Serdena Hutchings

Dear Paul and Serdena,

Thank you for the compliments, all the credit for the photographs goes to Javier Perez.
In fact, Hurricane Kenna did NOT enter the bay. It hit the coast of Nayarit north of the bay, the town of San Blas to be exact. What we did get was the very edge of it and look what it did! Imagine if Vallarta had received the full force of it.

We're sorry to hear about Pipis. We will check out our information better in the future and definitely undertake the research necessary to publish something on the various Sunday Brunches offered around town. Thank you for a great idea!

The Ed.

Dear Editor:

Is there any recycling currently available in Puerto Vallarta? Such as aluminum cans, cardboard, tin, metal, etc? If not why not?

Thank you-
