LETTERS TO EDITOR

May 4, 2003

Dear Editor;

Do you or any of your readers know what the police will do if I cannot produce a valid/current drivers' license?

My license expires next week and I cannot get it renewed without proof of insurance per family back home in CA. My car is covered by a Mexican insurance plan and I will not leave Mexico until late July at which time I plan to buy US coverage.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

Gratefully,

Kathy Parisotto
kparis@pvnet.com.mx

Dear Kathy,
We don’t have a solution for you right now, but perhaps one of our readers will contact you with some information. In the meantime, keep a low profile, drive carefully, and good luck.
The Ed.

This is for Anna,

I know they say you go to restaurants and get nothing free. But how do you explain your trip to El Nogalito and say there is only one restaurant?

You basically drove past Chanos restaurant on the way up to restaurant El Nogalito. There are small signs coming up the road from the highway with arrows pointing which way to go. It sits right on the river and is very peaceful with fish swimming right below the restaurant. The prices are much cheaper. They serve a wide variety of excellent seafood fixed anyway you like. The setting is very different from El Nogalito but very special in its own way.

Ken

Dear Ken,

I stand corrected. But you must realize that part of the article -including the paragraph that reads “To reach the one and only restaurant,…”- was written by my colleague, Ana Luz. I should have been more careful with what I kept and what I discarded from her writings.

Thank you for pointing out the error and I will certainly make a point of going to visit Chanos as soon as I get the chance.

Anna

Dear Editor,

I saw the reader letter in the current issue of the Tribune (No. 316). I have not received any emails with questions. Please assure your readers that I would answer any questions I could by email, although specific medical advice may be difficult to provide without seeing the patient.

Any reader wishing to contact me directly can reach me by email at arceinpv@hotmail.com or at gvarce@hotmail.com or call for an appointment at the office or my cell phone (322) 294-2009. I do plan to resume my articles in a few months, but they require time and research to do properly and I will be working on them over the summer.

Sincerely,
Dr. Gustavo Arce, M.D.

Dear Editor and Contributors,

I am hoping that someone at the Mirror will find this story worthy of writing and I think it would be very interesting to the people in Puerto Vallarta. Do you remember when Alaska flight #261 crashed in the ocean on its way to Seattle in January 2000, there were many well known
people on that flight and one couple was the Rev. Joe Knight and his wife Linda, who had be doing a tremendous amount of work to improve the lives of the families that live in the dump in Magisterio, just outside of PV. After the crash their story received an enormous of coverage on TV and all the newspapers in Seattle, Washington and it touched the hearts of many.

One person in particular was Sonya Saavedra, an employee of Alaska Airlines and had taken that very flight home on several different occasions due to her love of Vallarta and its people. She wanted so desperately to continue the good work the Knight's had started and when she heard that their son Jeff, who was also a minister, was going to do just that, she started a campaign to raise money by asking for donations from other fellow Alaska/Horizon Airline workers.

See www.childrenofthedump.org and www.perdonamistad.com .

What transpired is truly amazing - the first year anniversary she collected $1,800. USD and when she handed the money to Rev. Knight he blessed it and prayed to God to triple the money so that they could do greater work with the "Children of the Dump." The following year she raised $10,000. USD and on the 3rd year anniversary her and her colleagues raised almost $16,000. USD, which was just donated last month here in PV.

Upon her return to Seattle someone at King TV (Channel 5) heard about the event and decided to do a follow-up story for the "Evening Magazine Show" that is viewed every night at 7:00pm.

Sonya, her 3 assistants and the TV people will be arriving on flight 198 at 2:45pm and returning on May 4th, and they will be staying at the Playa Los Arcos hotel. They will be filming at the dump on the 29th and 30th of April, in attendance will be Pastor Saul (222-2572).

It would be a wonderful story for your magazine especially when there are so many people looking for heartfelt stories during these troubled times. You also have a large contingent
of NW visitors and residents who live here and are familiar with Channel 5 and Alaska/Horizon Airlines, who by the way, are donating 100 T-shirts for the School of Champions.

People like Sonya, whose hard work, dedication and tenacity sometimes go unnoticed, deserve their moment of glory.

If you need any further information please contact me on 222-7017, Dolores Brittingham.
