Dear Editor,
I read with interest the letter for
the American tourists from Royal Caribbean Cruises who
had their visit to Puerto Vallarta ruined by dishonest
Police Officer who continue to think that tourists have
money to burn.
Perhaps someone should inform these
officers that the idea that tourists are wealthy is
not likely true
many have saved and budgeted for
this vacation.
Even if they happen upon someone
of wealth, the police officer has no right to demand
anything...
The problem is more likely to abate
if there were signs perhaps at the cruise ship terminal
setting out what to do if you are stopped.
Get the officers name, badge number
and what kind of Police Officer he is... Federal, municipal,
traffic and heaven knows whatever other kind.
Do not pay him any cash, insist on
a ticket and a trip to the office where the ticket can
be paid
I think you are also entitled to an explanation
of the infraction.
Perhaps when you rent a vehicle,
the question should be asked whether a bail bondsman
is supplied in the event of trouble with the police.
I am sure there are other things
a foreign driver should do , but perhaps this will help
for a start.
Do you think a copy of these complaints could be forwarded
to the responsible authority?
I understand an effort is being made
to clean up corruption, but it is a difficult task,
especially if badge numbers and names are not supplied
concerning the offending officers.

Hi,
I wonder if you can tell me if there
is any place in PV that we can keep up with newspapers
or
English radio or television.
Our hotel will have CNN, but to Canadians this is only
US news and very little Canadian content.
Sheila
Dear Sheila,
The best would be for you to go to an internet café.
There you can log on to your favorite newspaper and
keep up with the news as published "back home".
That's what we would do.
The Ed.
Re: Puerto Vallarta, My Memories
Buenos Dias!
I love the PV Mirror. Great publication
!! I will be ordering Puerto Vallarta, My Memories.
Sounds Great!! Do you know of any books of photos of
P.V. - old photos?
I've been in P.V. since 1972 , I own a home in Conchas
Chinas (a former Mayor's home) Can't wait to retire!!
Thank you, and keep up the good work!

Dear Editor,
I read with some interest a letter
to the editor concerning the police in PV extorting
money from said writer of letter. I have some advice
on that subject for the tourista: GROW-UP.
I have found that if you approach
the situation in a polite but firm manner, one can usually
save themselves hundreds of peso's and have a cop as
a friend as well.

P.S.: I live in PV half the year.
