Mexico is a Preferred Destination for Canadian Tourists
Source by Ambito Newspaper

Mexico surpasses the United Kingdom , the number of Canadian travelers to Mexico grows 18 percent.

According to the Conference Board of Canada, top organization in business research in Canada , Mexico has surpassed the United Kingdom as the main tourist destination for Canadians traveling to places other than United States . It is worth noticing that most of Canadian population, about 31 million people, lives in cities located near the US border.
In 2003, the number of travelers to Mexico grew 18% to reach the record figure of 717, 400 tourists. An important fact is that the average stay is 7 to ten days, which represents twice the average stay of an American tourist. An important growth is expected for 2004, when over 900,000 Canadians have chosen Mexico to vacation.

Within the framework of a three day tour in the cities of Ottawa and Toronto , the Minister of Tourism Rodolfo Elizondo Torres, learned in several interviews that a great number of travelers prefer beach and sun destinations. Some of these destinations are interesting to them but lack the required number of hotel rooms, and Mr. Elizondo pledged to promote investments in such destinations.

Tour operators informed the Mexican minister that there s a growing interest on the part of Canadian travelers to learn more about cities of the interior of Mexico . Elizondo, in turn, laid out the possibility to conduct a market study to eventually make the decision to focus part of the promotional efforts on Mexican tourist destinations other than beach and sun ones, which may please the Canadian traveler.

The Tourist Minister was interviewed by Toronto 's Globe and Mail and the specialized travel magazine Travel Courier. He told both media that he is pleased by the advance of the Canadian markets as well as by the possibilities of a continuous growth and the coverage of new destinations.

According to the comments of tourist companies, the preference to travel to near places and considered safe for travelers, hotel and services infrastructure, promotional campaigns with a professional approach that distinguishes the diverse segments of the market along with the appreciation of Canadian dollar before the Mexican peso over the last three years, are factors that explain the success achieved by our country in recent times.

MyTravel, the company that brings the greatest number of Canadians to Mexico , about 200,000 a year, reports a great success of beach destinations, and the enthusiastic exploration of new markets. In 2006 it expects to explore the vast potential represented by alumni, who have a greater income and a special interest for culture and other sophisticated products offered by Mexican cities.

With iTravel2000, plans were commented to conmtinue promotional programs of Mexican destinations on the internet, namely, on the website this company devotes to Mexico . In Canada , an estimated 19 million people use this means of communication, and according to official data, one out of three travelers make their reservations over the internet.

Blackjack For Becas
Source by Ambito Newspaper

On Saturday, November 27th, Becas Vallarta A.C. is offering everyone a chance to visit the Mexican Naval base - which few of us have ever had the opportunity to see - and gamble to your heart's content at a professionally run " Fantasy Casino Night" in support of the longest running charity in town.

There will be everything from blackjack to bingo, so everyone can match their skill level according to their ability. The evening kicks off at 8 p.m. and the tables will close around 1 a.m.

To keep your spirits up whether you are winning or losing, there will be a cash bar on hand and a buffet where you can buy delicious 'taster' foods that are kindly being donated by many leading restaurants.

This event is part of a new program that is responding to the need for more and more scholarships to support exceedingly bright but exceedingly poor children. Not only are there more children to support, many more are going on to study at university level. As the city grows year by year, the task of raising larger amounts of money is being energetically met by today's dedicated volunteers, who are continuing the great Becas tradition which stretches back over forty years.

Mexico 's rich neighbor to the north recently introduced a "Let no child be left behind" program. Imagine how much more necessary this concept is here in Puerto Vallarta .
You are invited to play a part in enabling a young boy or girl get the education they deserve simply by joining in the fun of the "Fantasy Casino Night." The fact that it will be held in the Mexican Naval base offers another reason to attend. And there will be a very special opportunity to meet some of the young people who are on Becas scholarships right now. They are well worth getting to know.

Entrance tickets are 200 pesos ahead of the event - available from members of Becas - or 250 pesos at the door.

Second Chamber of Commerce Federation Forum
Source by Ambito Newspaper

One of the central themes of the forum was the tourist and economic benefits the reform of the Federal Law of Games and Draws would bring to Mexico .

The second Forum of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Jalisco, took place Friday November 5 in Puerto Vallarta .

Among the personalities in attendance at the forum were Armando Sojo, Delegate of the Economy Ministry, as well as the President of the FECANACO Francisco Javier Ahued Nuño, the National President of the Camber of Commerce Confederation, Raul Alejandro Padilla, the Federal Deputy for the District, Javier Bravo Carvajal, and the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Puerto Vallarta, Luis Alberto Topete.

Raul Alejandro Padilla expressed his thankfulness to the City, and said that "this is a forum of strategic importance for all the municipalities of Jalisco, but specially for Puerto Vallarta ."

One of the central themes of the forum was the exposition on the tourist and economic benefits the reform of the Federal Law of Games and Draws would bring to Mexico , giving way to a true legislation on the matter that , among other things, includes the installation of legal casinos in our country.

During his speech, State Deputy Javier Bravo made an in-depth analysis of the current situation of tourist activity in the country, of the need to exploit its enormous potential and the great opportunity to attract revenues posed by the installation of casinos in Mexico .

He explained that around this issue there are many taboos which have historically impeded the aperture of the free enterprise of games and draws, since it is a proven fact that cities where casinos exist, crime indexes are lower than those in cities without casinos.

The legislator added that should the law allowing the installation of casinos be passed, the federal government would receive revenue from this activity for around 7 billion pesos, which would add to two billions from the regularization of illegal casinos already existing in the country, which obviously haven't been taxed.

At the forum, a video narrated by journalists Eduardo Ruiz Healy, Ricardo Rocha and Pedro Ferriz was shown, which presents shocking figures about the enormous business opportunity and the economic development it entails, which have been lost in Mexico due to the resistance to the installation of casinos and other game and recreation centers.
While in Mexico , the estimate yearly revenue from tourism is 9 billion dollars, Las Vegas alone receives 36 billion dollars from tourism, which is equivalent to triple the profit from Mexican oil exports.

This and other papers were presented at the Forum, which has the aim of supporting the reform of the law of games and draws.
