Malecon Extension Works in Progress

Last month, Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez Villaseñor marked the beginning of construction on the Malecon's extension at the area known as Malecon de la Marina, adjacent to the river Cuale.

With the attendance of several councilmen, functionaries, businessmen and representatives of the private sector, the mayor marked the start of 12 large impact infrastructure works to be carried out during this year by his administration.

He said this and other works will come to meet the demands of Puerto Vallarta as to tourist and urban infrastructure, and will put this destination on the top level on the international scene.

As to the extension and remodelling of the Malecon, Gonzalez Villaseñor added that these works will bring about an attractive space comparable to the principal tourist destinations of the world, in accordance with the traditional architecture of the typical Mexican town which Puerto Vallarta is.

At the same ceremony, the mayor announced that the works on the Mojoneras-Ixtapa road were to commence last Tuesday followed by side lanes on Francisco Medina Ascencio Ave. which will be completed by the bridges on the Pitillal River and El Salado Estuary.
He announced the construction of other important infrastructure works and the completion of the Rio Amazonas Avenue to connect Francisco Medina and Francisco Villa Avenues, as well as the construction of four parking lots.

In turn Carlos Manzano Zepeda, Director of Urban Planning explained the technical aspects of this grand work to be executed by GOTOP.

The project blue prints were on display, and on this basis the functionary elaborated on the aspects of the work, and that encompasses the area between the Aquiles Serdan and the foot bridge on the river Cuale, and its posterior continuation toward Los Muertos zone.

The area to be remodelled will be pedestrians-only, as the construction of a 320-vehicle parking lot is planned for the Benito Juarez Park area.

Marco Antonio Muñiz, Next Concert in Puerto Vallarta

Jalisco-born song legend Marco Antonio Muñiz will be the next international star to perform the best of his repertoire on Puerto Vallarta 's Malecon, to the delight of his large following. This is foreseen as the third grand concert in the City, in which such luminaries as Juan Gabriel and Raul DiBlasio have been paid homage by our city on their remarkable careers.

Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez met with Mr. Muñiz in a Marina Vallarta restaurant recently to extend him a formal invitation, which was immediately accepted by the singer, who said he was honoured because, he said "I feel a part of Puerto Vallarta" since he is a frequent visitor to the city.

"The mayor has made me an invitation that has overwhelmed me. I love Puerto Vallarta and I am happy for this great surprise Mr. Gonzalez has given me" the singer would say moments after his talk with the mayor.

The month of March was mentioned as a possible date for the event, subject to the performer's availability. The mayor said to be very pleased in the first place to have Mr. Muñiz as a guest to the city, and to pay tribute to a great Mexican performing artist on his excellent career, in one of the most beautiful places in our country, while continuing an important promotional strategy, which is yielding good results as observed in the excellent inflow of visitors this winter season.

XIII Banderas Bay International Regatta - March 12 to 15, 2005

The annual Bay of Banderas Regatta takes place within the waters of the beautiful Bahía de Banderas, and it's main ports of Puerto Vallarta (state of Jalisco), and it's next door neighbor, Nuevo Vallarta (state of Nayarit).This sailing event is organized and run by two local nonprofit organizations: Regatas y Deportes Marítimos - Bahía de Banderas ( Sección Jalisco, A.C., and Sección Nayarit, A.C., affiliated with the Mexical Saling Federation ) and the Vallarta Yacht Club.

Ideal conditions for cruiers, along with lots of fun and competitive classes have become the hallmark of this now famous Regatta. Raicing takes place [6-8 boats] of similar performance and grouped, with cruising and non-spinnaker allowances added. Discovery PV, Only Tender for Parking Lots

Proposal includes remodeling of Parke Hidalgo to make it a beautiful garden and a dignifying space for Vallartans.

At closing of the tender for construction of parking lots on the sites of Parque Hidalgo and Parque Benito Juarez, on Friday 14, before Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez Villaseñor, the only envelop containing a tender, submitted by Discovery PV, Ltd., represented by Luz Maria Torrez Gonzalez.

The City Hall's Secretary General Antonio Lugo Morales, read the proposal dated January 6, 2005, and addressed to the Tender Board and the Municipal Attorney. In attendance were members of the board, Urban Planning Director Carlos Manzano Zepeda and representatives of the media.

In the five page document, the company outlines its proposal in accordance to the rules established for the tender; as to project characteristics, completion dates, estimates, lease payments, and son on.

As to the Parque Hidalgo, the proposed project includes general renmodeling of the areas, maintining the architectural style of the city, the creation of gardens, recreative spaces and areas for artistic and cultural expression, as well as an underground parking lot with 160-plus boxes.

As to the characteristics of the Parque Benito Juarez, it is proposed to build a five-story parking lot with space for 305 cars. This building wil also mainain the architectureal style of the city and will hamonize with its surroundings and won't look like a parking lot.
In both cases, service is planned as first class, with automatic gates, spaces for handicapped persons, 24-hour service and low rates during the first months and years of operation, which will be revised gradually.

The interested company estimates an investment of 98 million pesos, which includes a 3.2 million-peso annual lease for 30 years.

The complany also proposes to pay the City a 5 percent of the revenue as complement of the lease payment.

Once the proposal was admitted, a ten-day period follows in which the projects will be analyzed by the Urban Planning Department, from the architectural design to the tecnical and structural aspects, to evaluate the project and a resolution will be announced, the head of the Department, Carlos Manzano Zepeda explained, and added that ground could be broken by the end of the month.

The mayor, in turn, commented that this way the City completed this phase of the process, and thanked those who showed interest in the project, where, before all, the fundamental requisite to build a beautiful park, a garden of culture and art, and at the same time meet the need to have parking lots in the center of town

Aeromexico Reactivates San Diego-Puerto Vallarta Route

After eight years of absence, last Thursday, January 13, Aeromexico resumed operations on the route San Diego-Puerto Vallarta. Authorities, hoteliers and tourist service providers were at the airport to welcome the passengers on the maiden flight.

Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez headed the welcome committee of this first flight which arrived at the airport minutes after 6:00 p.m. with 50 percent occupation, to a warm Mariachi, folk ballet and hors d'oeuvres welcome.

The first flight was directed by Aeromexico's regional manager in San Diego , Luis Eternod, who was joined by a host of wholesalers and travel agents from the American city, who were guests at the route reopening.

The airline executive said at the airport that after eight years of absence the company had decided to resume flights between these two cities, representative of two countries, emphasizing traditions, and culture of Puerto Vallarta and San Diego as the new route on the Pacific to Latin America.

"I'm honored to be here again to bring back Puerto Vallarta and San Diego to their position among the most important cities that will be connected by Aeromexico's fleet" he said. He announced that the flight frequency will be twice a week, on Thursday and Sunday, and as demand increases, the frequency will increase as well to a daily flight.
People, tourists and hoteliers demand this service, which was made possible thanks to the active participation of authorities and hotel associations from Puerto Vallarta and Bahia de Banderas.

He assured there are good prospects for this route, since Puerto Vallarta is the fastest growing tourist destination, among the four most important Mexican destinations.
He added that negotiations to resume this flight commenced last year during the Gala Vallarta and were concreted in November, with plans to resume flights in December, however, it was moved to January, despite being a difficult time for the west coast of United States.

He remarked that Puerto Vallarta has never been unfashionable to residents of San Diego and added that there are several flights already sold out for next Easter and summer.
Eternod granted that for the first few months occupancy is expected to be low, but expressed confidence that March and April it will pick up, we are confident of this flight, and we plan to make it a daily flight, eventually."

New Board for Preservation and Rescue of the Historic Center Sworn In

A new board aiming to preserve and rescue the historic center of Puerto Vallarta was sworn in at the City Council meeting last week.

The board is made up of representatives of the City Hall and citizens from the private sector. For the City Hall, participate Mayor Gustavo González Villaseñor; Councilmen Agustín Álvarez Valdivia, President of the Tourism Commission and Víctor Hugo Fernández Flores, president of the Urban Plannning Commission; the City Hall Secretary General, Antonio Lugo Morales; Public Works Director, Remberto Quintero Gutiérrez; Urban Planning Director, Carlos Manzano Zepeda and Tourism Director, José Luis Díaz Borioli.

Citizen Councilmembers are Architect Abel Villa, as president; Héctor Pérez García, secretary; Luz María Torres, treasurer; and as board members, Ignacio Cadena, Tierry Blouet, Luis Reyes Brambila, Laura Mestre, José Díaz Escalera, César Alfredo Dachary, Enrique Carothers, Gemma Garciarce and Bárbara Peters.

After the swear in ceremony, Architect Abel Villa, the president of the new board for Conservation, Preservation and Rescue of the Historic Center and the Tourist Strip of Puerto Vallarta, expressed his confidence in the new board and pledged to work hard to attain the goals and objectives established in the incorporation act.
