Puerto Vallarta , Bound to Become Number One Destination in Mexico
Provided by Ambito  The mayor of Puerto Vallarta conducted last month a tourist, commercial presentation on the destination in Zapopan , Jalisco, where he emphasized that it is by the joint efforts of authorities, businessmen, the private sector and service providers that Puerto Vallarta is now bound to become the number one destination, above Acapulco and the Mayan Riviera.
The presentation was attended by numerous representatives of the private sector; industry, financial, universities, travel agencies and diplomats, as well as the media from Metro Guadalajara.
"We are going to make it because now we can offer mountain, religious and beach tourism with the opening of the new Guadalajara-Ameca-Mascota-San Sebastian-Puerto Vallarta road" he said.
He also said that his administration is creating the atmosphere for businessmen to invest in our city "which has a world to offer, a world of opportunities, with many unexplored areas that enable us to create the pole of tourist development that we all havew longed for and we all desire" he added. We are one of the safest tourist destinations, and we are also recognized as the friendliest city in the world. If even with all the international recognition that we enjoy we cannot become number one, I don't know what we can be for everything that we are doing" he stressed.
He made reference to the recent arrival of four cruise ships to our port on the same day, bringing a total 12 thousand passengers, which leads him to envision, once the new dock is completed, over 600 thousand visitors a year on international cruise ships.
Mayor Gonzalez was accompanied by the president of the Puerto Vallarta Chamber of Commerce, Luis Alberto Topete Zepeda; the president of the Restaurant Chamber, Hector Perez García, the rector of the UNIVA, Roberto Gonzalez Gutierrez; Eduardo Legorreta, president of the Businessmen association of Bahia de Banderas, Restaurateur Ignacio Cadena, Enrique Carothers Barreto, as representative of the Hotel and Motel Association and Jose Martinez Guitron, from the Businessmen Association of Jalisco. First Dog-o-Thon, A Great Pet Show

 In a friendly competition atmosphere, last month was the first Dog-o-thon took place at the
Agustin Flores Sports Park , organized by the Animal Shelter (Centro de Acopio Animal) and the Board for Pet Control and Wild Fauna, A.C.
Martin Vazquez Mendoza attended the opening ceremonies as representative of the mayor. Also in attendance were Gloria Palacios Ponce, Social Communication Director, Lidia Saracco, Director of the Education Department, and students of the Lions Club Elementary School . They all enjoyed a show of many races of dogs, and a show of trained dogs from Hollywood , California .
Martin Vazquez addressed the audience and said that events like this one are necessary to create awareness about the care needed by pets, and to avoid having dogs living in the streets, which is a serious health problem for the Vallartan society.
The activities of this first dog-o-thon included contests such as the ugliest dog, the most obedient dog, the funniest dog, the dog that resembles its owner the most; as well as demonstrations of obedience training, agility and hurdles, protection and fantasy exercises, which were very entertaining to the audience, many of whom were children. " Manhattan Nights" Returns
After a brief hiatus to allow cast members to rest after a whirlwind of shows (and to allow a couple of cast members to recuperate from the flu), "Manhattan Nights" reopens at Santa Barbara Theatre on Monday, March 28 th .
Featuring songs about New York and music from famous Broadway shows, this great show had been drawing such huge crows during its run that they had to expand the performance schedule to two nights a week. Three of the ladies in the show (Kathleen Hennen, Kathy Overly, and Sharon Baughman) bring back memories of The Andrews Sisters and The Maguire Sisters with their renditions of "Lullaby of Broadway" and "Stardust". David White wows the audience with his offerings of "Lady is a Tramp", " New York , New York ", and "Maria", and elicits laughs with "Could I Leave You". Mikki Prost really gets the audiences' attention with her high kicking rendition of "If They Could See Me Now", and her sultry, provocative version of "Hey, Big Spender". The cast members also show off their talents with solos, duets, trios and production numbers for almost two hours of musical entertainment.
This very electric, fast paced show will, without a doubt, continue to play to capacity crowds for weeks and months to come.
Also returning to Santa Barbara Theatre, starting on Sunday, April 4 th , is "Abba Cadabra" which features the music of that fantastic Broadway musical "Mamma Mia". This show played to sold out crowds for 8 consecutive weeks, and saw more than 1,000 audiences members, who often sang along with the performers and, at times, stood and danced during the show
The management of Santa Barbara Theatre suggests purchasing your tickets well in advance, since ticket sales and seating are limited. The playhouse has had to stop selling tickets by mid-afternoon of the day of the show. Everything is ready for the 13th edition of Gala Puerto Vallarta 2005
One of the most important events of the tourist trade in Puerto Vallarta , the Gala event, is ready to receive the most important wholesalers and tour operators from the United Status, Canada and Mexico . They will carry out pre-established business meetings in order to commercialize the hotel offer of the destination. In this thirteenth edition of the event organized by the Tourist Office ( Fideicomiso de Turismo ) and the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Puerto Vallarta more than 90 per cent of the participants have been confirmed, predicting it to be a success for the destination and for the approximately 80 hotels that will negotiate their products.
The Gala Puerto Vallarta 2005 is confirmed to be held in the business center of the Jalisco salon of the NH Krystal Hotel from April 3rd to April 5th. Here the negotiations will be held with pre-establsihed appointments for the wholesalers who will have an average of 20 meetings with those hotels they are interested to work with from Boutique hotels up to 3 star hotels.
For this year the presence of around 55 of the most important wholesalers of North America has been confirmed, i.e. Apple Vacations, Pleasant, My Travel, Travel Connection, Travelocity and America West Vacations amongst many others form the United States , as well as Air Canada , Transat and Tours de Canada. On the Mexican side we have companies such as Virsa, Imacop, Hotel Beds and others which are confirmed.

Uno de los eventos mas importantes de la industria turística de Puerto Vallarta, el evento Gala, se encuentra listo para recibir a los más importantes mayoristas y operadores de viajes de Estados Unidos, Canadá y México, que llevaran a cabo citas de negocios preestablecidas para comercializar la oferta hotelera del destino. En esta la decimotercera edición del evento organizado por el Fideicomiso de Turismo y la Oficina de Convenciones y Visitantes de Puerto Vallarta, se tiene confirmado mas del 90 por ciento de la participación, lo que pronostica ser un éxito para el destino y para los aproximadamente 80 hoteles que negociaran sus productos.
El Gala Puerto Vallarta 2005 esta confirmado para realizarse del 3 al 5 de abril teniendo como sede de centro de negocios el salón Jalisco del hotel NH Krystal, en donde se llevara a cabo las negociaciones con las agendas preestablecidas por los mayoristas, quienes tendrán un promedio de 20 citas con los hoteles con quienes les interesa operar que van desde hoteles Boutique hasta 3 estrellas.
